Never mind that it was amuricans who came up with it and put it on in the first place. Such dumb people.

At first I was gonna call the OP a sore loser, but then... Pushing daisies.
Just... Pushing daisies. How do you justify that?

Sense of humor - or, more generally, taste in entertainment - is not actually a particularly good indicator of intelligence, or even erudition. Get over it.

It is tragic that it was canceled, though.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
The cancellation of a show has no reflection of the culture or people of a country, more a reflection of the network and people in power.

THAT's what makes you think Americans are stupid? Oh, come on, there's so much other, stronger proof!

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's more of the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak. I tried to hold out hope for the entertainment industry, since we do make some pretty damn good movies and shows! But Better Off Ted was so brilliant and awesome and I don't understand why that was cancelled when pure tripe like Jersey Shore and whatnot keeps going strong for seasons.

There is stronger, better, more damning proof, I know. But this dashed my last bit of hope.

There's nothing magically ~*intellectual*~ about dry wit. It's just a type of humor, and yeah. For some people it isn't enough. That doesn't make you or this show a special snowflake.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
+1

Also despite liking dry humour I found the ep. or two that I watched pretty lacklustre.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't go that far. Especially as I adore the show and have watched it several times, yet never watched a single episode live because I hadn't heard much about it and don't tend to like comedies because I have a drier sense of humor than most, and I know I'm not the only one. I know a lot of people who love it that discovered it later.

That being said, I would love for it to be revived like Arrested Development is going to be. I would love more episodes.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I was really excited about the Arrested Deveopment web series until I heard that the episodes were mostly going just have one (maybe a couple) character at a time, and they wouldn't all be together until the movie.

The ensemble is what made that show. I don't need The GOB Hour or George Michael Goes to College, etc.

I think if the show had premiered a couple of years later, it might have done better. But it aired at a time when ABC's comedy schedule was really weak which really didn't help it at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
My thought was always that it would've been good on NBC, which is a little more allowing of quirk (and, let's be real, low ratings).

Well, you certainly don't seem to be exempt.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
I'm American and I've just decided I don't get America's sense of humor. I'm fine with dumb comedies (I will even watch them here and there) but I don't get why people refuse to watch anything BUT dumb comedies.

Like I'll let you have your Big Bang theory and 2 and half charlie sheens but can I at least have a few more comedies to watch that don't get cancelled so quickly?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Don't most people hate both of those shows? I've even seen Family Guy making fun of them, and that show would probably make the best argument for Americans having bad taste in comedy.

lol at dry humor being more ~intellectual~

I've never even heard of this show, that being said. So maybe it was just badly marketed.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yeeeeah. The moment you start thinking that the sort of TV you watch is indicative of how intelligent you imagine yourself to be is the moment you can no longer be called "intelligent."

What's the show?

[personal profile] nyxelestia 2013-03-08 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Because I've never heard of it until now. (But I live under a rock, so that's not unusual.)

You know, something that doesn't seem to be remarked on very often is that Americans simply have more television than most other places. Yeah, sure the most popular shows tend to be the 'least common denominator' ones, but there is TONS of really great American programming on other channels too.

God, I loved that show.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Forever lamenting that this was cancelled but that stupid Big Bang Theory show goes on and on and on.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
I love this show something fierce, but 1. I never heard anything about it until Netflix, 2. They kept pushing the Ted/Whatshername dynamic, and I could not STAND her. I almost never out-and-out hate a lead character, but I wanted to be rid of her almost every time she was on the screen. Compare that to the HBIC Veronica, and... I'm supposed to like her? (Yes, I am a Ted/Veronica shipper, but only because whatshername was such an awful character.)

Actually, scratch that, I might've liked her if she'd been played by someone quite a bit more personable.

And I really cannot remember her name, so this isn't me being dismissive.
