Shows you wish hadn't been cancelled

For bonus points, pick only one and tell us why that one.

Pushing Daisies. I didn't care at all for the Chuck/Ned stuff, but that show had such amazing and unique characters, world building, sets - everything. I loved it and wish there was more. Especially Olive and Emerson.

The Hour. It was just cancelled this year. After ending their last season on a cliffhanger. D:

If I had to pick one, I'd say Farscape. I know it got a decent TV movie, but it's just not the same. ;__; I don't really have reasons besides I wanted to see where the series was going naturally. But, instead we got a rushed TV movie thing.

See also: Earth 2, Carnivale, Jericho.

Titus. I fucking loved that show because it dared to make the uncomfortable jokes about dysfunctional families nobody else did, and was actually funny because of it. Maybe if you didn't live in a screwed up family you wouldn't get it, but it's not FOR you. It's for people like me.

I guess I'll only pick one because otherwise I'll be here all day.

Forgoing an obvious choice (three guesses what it could be), I'm gonna have to pick Green Lantern the Animated Series. The first season has been so well written and I love every character. The show still had so much more potential too, they were great with development and foreshadowing. Now alot of those stories will never be told. ;_;

You're killing me with this "only one" challenge, but I think I've settled on My Own Worst Enemy.

The premise is that Henry Spivey (Christian Slater) is a fictional creation. He has a real life with a real wife and real kids, but he was a personality created and implanted into secret agent Edward Albright. He has no idea about his "other life" as a spy, until on one night when he "wakes up" mid-mission. And it gets worse as Henry or Edward periodically reappear when they shouldn't.

I loved it, because not only did it have this real Jekyll and Hyde thing going on, but the spy stuff was fun, because Edward was so good at it and Henry was soooooooo out of his element. And Edward's disgust at Henry's suburban, white-picket-fence life was kind of hilarious (though I was really waiting for a story arc of Henry's kids starting to grow on him).

Plus it had Mike O'Malley and a pre-Twilight Taylor Lautner. I have its lone half-season on DVD, but I've been too afraid to watch its final episodes. The last episode that I saw was such a natural act break I was worried that additional episodes would just leave me hung out to dry with a big cliffhanger or something.

The Incredible Hulk

Because I wanted Jack to find out, dammit. I'm utterly convinced that he would've done the right thing, but I'll never get to know for sure.

THE MIDDLEMAN! It was so cute. The stories were insanely creative, the cast was great, and the sheer number of fannish reference was mind-boggling. I do love its ending, though-- a lot more than the Comic Con script reading/comic finale episode. I want to imagine Wendy and the Middleman just continuing to go out there fighting crime so we don't have to.

Related: Did anyone else notice Interrodroid in the fake movie table-read scene in Argo? Because it was totally there!

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. So good, and I really wanted to see what they'd do with John, John Henry and Weaver in the future while Sarah, Ellison and the kid were still in the past. And I miss seeing Garrett Dillahunt be awesome instead of a giant idiot on Raising Hope.

Joan of Arcadia. I loved everything about it -- from the variety of God characters to Joan's missions, her mom's struggles with faith and her brother's struggle to feel normal after being paralyzed. And Grace and Luke were adorable, and it really looked like it was settling in for a big arc against an actual bad and not just bad situations.

Twin Peaks

DO I REALLY NEED TO EXPLAIN WHY? ufndnjniajsndskjd ARGH ARGH

My So-Called life deserves a special mention. It was too good to last, so I'm not really surprised it got cancelled. Every show aimed at teenagers that doesn't treat its viewers like they're stupid always get cancelled.

I don't know if anyone here remembers it but I'm forever pressed. NBC fucked it up with bad + inconsistent timeslots

Caprica :c

The worldbuild was so great. The political intrigue was great. The character development was great. The pacing was slow, and I was very happy with that. It was very different in tone from Battlestar Galactica, but the plots were just as complex, which I liked (although don't quote me on that because I still haven't seen most of BSG...because my parents would always watch something else because it was too complex :/). It was so great.

also how Syfy treated it was BULLSHIT it wasn't given a decent chance and I'm still mad :/

American Gothic. The only other show on at the time that was anywhere near as good was X-Files and that was already getting a little stale by that point.

Spectacular Spiderman. My friend absolutely loves it and got me to watch it. I ended up liking it quite a bit, but I mostly wish it hadn't been canceled because of how much they obviously enjoy what little there is of the cartoon.

Plus there's the whole bit with how they have some episodes finished and ready to air that they locked away the second the show was canceled. What a waste. They could at least release them on dvd or something.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god there are lots, but for this round I will pick DOLLHOUSE.

I think mainly because we saw a finale that skipped over years worth of character development, and while I liked the finale I still would have loved to see the journey of those characters all those years (just for one I would have loved to see Alpha's character growth.)

Danny Phantom, largely because there were several subplots that got long-running, because the writers thought they were safe, and then Nick cancelled it and they were just left as loose ends. :/

On the other hand, that's what fanfiction is for!
