think there's a legitimate anger at us knowing very little about Boyd and really not seeing him much in Season 2.

Because he's black? See, I just do not get this. Ugh, IDK why I'm even arguing about this. It doesn't matter what role he plays-- people are going to complain and cry "racism!" wherever. If he were in Isaac's position everyone would be yelling at the writers for making the black family abusive. If he were in Jackson's position, they'd yell at the writers for making the black character the bully. If he were in Stiles' position, they'd yell at the writers for making the black character the comic relief.

You just can't win.

Again I say - Boyd is one of very few minor characters where we have almost NO backstory whatsoever. Pretty much all we know about him is that he is a loner without a ton of money who works at an ice rink. And now he's a werewolf. That's it. We didn't even have a full name for him until it was released outside of the context of the show. The two other new betas, however, were given some reasonably involved backstories, or had a large amount of interaction with the main characters. There doesn't appear to be any real reason for Boyd to have been pushed to the back, especially considering he is the closest to a second or head-beta that Derek has. The only reason is assumed to be that Boyd is a POC, specifically a black man. I don't think it necessarily is, but it's a pretty large discrepancy between three relatively equal characters.

I agree that some of the cries of racism aren't always warranted IMO, but the fact that POCs in the fandom are hurt by it makes me more aware of it. If people are hurt by it, why would you do it?

THIIIIISS. It's a complete catch 22. All you have to do is decide whether you'd rather be damned if you do, or damned if you don't.

Yeah well, that's what happens when you decide to stick one black character on a cast of predominantly white characters. Maybe if they tried to get more involved and chose to cast several black characters that filled several roles we wouldn't have this problem. But instead you get two magical negroes, and one severely underdeveloped Beta. I do think it's underlying racism.

Jeff has been known for treating ethnicity as interchangeable (he did it with the new character Kali - and he did it with Erica, who was originally supposed to be latina). He's also known for gloating about having an 'ethnic' character as the protagonist like he deserves a cookie for it. Jeff Davis is at least unconsciously racist.
