21. Well, I only know some of these guys in passing, but this makes me feel really ill. Seriously. Until I start reading their comments, and then it's just funny. But still.

We're not even really that creeped out by it, anymore. Just kind of going LOLOLOLOL.

Although, I kind of want to see the fanfiction, just for extra trauma. *DIES*

Funny how that works, huh?

I think I saw that on a secret last week, actually.

is it A:tla day or something?

2. HE'S ALIVE.

4. I know that 4chan is srs fuckin' business and all that, but it's still a website. And an anon one at that.

14. I think it's better than most of the animes I've watched, to be honest. Though I was never too picky about the whole American vs. Japanese animation thing.

24. Holy shit. I was speculating on making a secret JUST like this one, but was too lazy to actually get around to doing it. Who are you and are you secretly in my brain?

25. I haven't heard Vic's Dark dub, but I might have to go hunt it down now just to see D:

29. You know, I think it really depends on the person. Being a FanArtist myself, and knowing other FanArtists, slapping watermarks on can be a good thing. Especially when you're a popular artist. People will post your art everywhere claiming it as their own, even with some sort of watermark on it. Artists spend hours drawing those, you'd think people would have the decency to credit the artist for drawing it. No, they didn't create the character, but they did draw the picture, and usually they make it look different from the original design. They deserve some credit.

I can't stand it when iconists or web designers use FanArts without permission or credit. It's not official art -- you can't just gank it and post it everywhere. Or use it in your graphics without permission. I always ask permission when I use FanArt in icons or layout. It's called common courtesy. It really isn't that fucking hard to e-mail the artist and ask for permission. They usually say yes anyway.

Sorry for teh rant, but I hate it when iconists bitch about about using FanArt. 4Chan or deviantART didn't draw it, someone else did and they're not being credited. It's just immature and crude.

(Anonymous) 2007-09-11 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
29's OP here – I'm not an iconist, thnxverymuch. I'm a fanartist (or FanArtist? We are special enough we deserve caps? This is news to me). And in my fandom, actually a pretty popular one. My stuff gets posted around quite a bit, with and without credit. And I don't care one way or the other.

I draw fanart because I enjoy drawing fanart. I post fanart because I know other people like to look at it – for other people to enjoy. How they go about enjoying it, I don't much care. They can print it out and stick it on their stuff, they can post it to share with more people, they can make it into icons – whatever! Sure, credit is nice, but I don't think that, where fanart is concerned, it's necessary to the point at which a lot of people make it out to be. It just irritates me to see how worked up a lot of people get about people POSTING THEIR FANART WITHOUT PERMISSION ON GAIA OR 4CHAN OMFG HOW DARE THEY?!?!

I don't see what's so wrong about watermarking art... as for the size, it's just the artist's taste. So what?

a) If the art gets reposted elsewhere, people can find the artist's website, and see other pictures by that person and read how the picture came about, instead of having it all mixed up in a great jumble of different people's work on 4chan or Photobucket. Haven't you seen a picture reposted and wished you could see more by the artist?

b) Who is 'fandom'? Everyone on the Internet? I can't speak for others, but personally, I don't draw for fandom. I draw for people I know, my friends, and mainly for myself. I don't claim ownership of the characters I draw (except my own), but yes, I have an emotional investment in my own art.

c) You're neglecting one major reason people watermark art - preventing others from taking it and passing it off as their own. Even people who don't mind their art used for various purposes (everything from icons to skeevy people on eBay making pins out of other people's work and selling it) might object to somebody else pretending to have made their picture.

d) Well, yes, people do draw fanart for respect and credit. They also write fanfiction, wear particular clothes, hang out with certain people, get certain kinds of jobs, etc. It can be argued that many great explorers and scientists and artists were motivated by that same desire, too. If you draw fanart selflessly and without thought of the comments you'll get, my hat is off to you. Or it would be, if I had a hat. (Which I don't.)

And as a side note, I doubt many people lose sleep over the fact that an anonymouse lost all respect for them. Why do people keep writing this?

[identity profile] icemilk.livejournal.com 2007-09-11 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Sexuality is confusing and our parents and the media and our social constructions of gender roles just make it weirder and nobody is comfortable with themselves all the time and everyone has to start somewhere. For the love of zombie jesus, let people have "lonely speculation" and go through a process to figure themselves out without chastising them for it.

So what if someone calls themselves gay because they relate better to their internet girlfriends than they do to anybody they know in real life? Even if they find out later they like boys, it's really not a big deal. Making them feel two feet tall because they have less experience is such unnecessary douchebaggery.

Let people discover. Even if their discoveries are not what they thought it would be and you turn out to be right, you're still an asshole and they're still only trying to learn more about themselves. Congratulations.

22. It's not "lonely speculation" at all. I'm queer, myself, and I dislike most fandom lesbians (and fandom gays, although admittedly there aren't as many). I really do think that most of them only consider themselves gay because they can RP buttsex with their best friend, or because they like yaoi/yuri.

I don't see where you get off acting all butthurt because of it, though. If only you hadn't made such a sweeping generalization and you hadn't included that last, dramatic small-text line about being "the only straight person" (LOL what?), maybe people would have actually paid attention to you. Now yours is just another high-minded opinion.

02) I don't think there's been anyone on that show I've genuinely disliked. There are a dotted few I'm fairly apathetic about, but I don't hate any of them. Yeah, the show's pretty dag awesome like that.
06) I absolutely love the concept of it, but none of the RPGs I'm in participate in it, and the fandoms my characters come from hardly show up. So it makes me a sad panda. -.-;;
10) My friend started a Washington/Hamilton slash fic back in high school. She never finished it, but it amuses me someone does historical fandom even though it's not my cup of tea.
24) I'm like that whenever I submit a secret, too. XD But all mine have already been posted, so the suspense is gone. I don't have the time to make new ones now either, boo hoo.

14. I like incest pairings too, but I never got into Uchihacest, partially I think because I HATE enemy ships (just a personal squick.) For me it really depends on the relationship the two siblings in question have, like Elricest as oppose to Uchihacest. Huge difference there.

18. That's interesting and I don't think I've ever met anyone with that capability. But that's a good thing because you're less prone to the ship wars.

28. C'mon, it's just for fun. It's just a way for people to identify with the story.

10. I don't blame you. Hamilton is sexy, damnit. Is he the Uke? XD

15. Voltron is one of those shows I love because I watched it as a kid. It's so terrible, but amazing at the same time. I love that show. TwT

[identity profile] schizo-niko.livejournal.com 2007-09-11 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
22. You know, I don't know why that is. ^^' I've always been bisexual. Maybe not always had a name for it, but I've always known. And I think it might be because people who are bi or gay or what have you are not always accepted flawlessly into society, and there are a lot of people who don't watch anime. All the really 'normal' kids at school don't (which isn't true but you get what I mean) and maybe it has something to do with that? Like, you have different preferences so you can't get into what the majority likes? *shrug* I've never thought about it.

But! It really has nothing to do with what you date. It's all about what you like. Many people miss this point. You can't go through your whole life without a sexual thought in your mind and suddenly decide to date a boy or a girl and declare yourself a certain sexuality. It doesn't work that way. I figured you'd know. Maybe you just did this to cause wank, which you have done, yay! :3

FAIL. SERIOUSLY FAIL. You've got to be some kind of bigot to claim that your experience trumps over others preferences in this instance. So what are these internet lesbians now? Some kind of fake, confused, obscure sexuality that are really completely straight? Hmmm? Way to go in being a hypocrite about/towards people you don't really know.
