What is this, that it would inspire you to learn such an ugly, useless, and complicated language? The German language is hideous, all forms of it.

Troll harder.

ugly, useless, and complicated language

Incorrect on three accounts. German is a base for many other languages, and is not complicated at all to learn. And obviously you're looking at several stereotypes if you think it's ugly.

I'm willing to bet that you're monolingual and have no grasp of the history of language.

Incorrect on three accounts yourself. I know it's a base for many other languages. Many of which sound quite different from it. And I'm not looking at any stereotypes, I just hear people speaking it and feel like my ears are being violently assaulted by horrible noise.

Bully for you, then.
I think German sounds perfectly lovely.

I've always thought it sounds kind of musical, personally. When I went to Berlin for a few days once, I loved hearing people speaking it, even if I could only understand a word here and there.

Ahem, you know that English and German are related? English is also a Germanic language and so the languages are very similar.

You're definitely monolingual.

How can a language that routinely dispenses with irritating complicated hard-to-correctly-grammar wordy descriptive sentences in favor of combining everything into one long word be deemed ugly, useless, or complicated?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-04 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm... I wouldn't describe German as a language as ugly, but some of those extremely long words are not what I would aesthetically pleasing.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-04 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I get lost in them. It know it all works out when you say it, but it's like reading Japanese in all hiragana, with no kanji to give your eyes a break.

Haha, du hast sicher im Deutschunterricht immer schlechte Noten gehabt und deshalb stänkerst du jetzt so herum.

Ich spreche Englisch, Deutsch und Französisch und ich habe alles gleich leicht empfunden zu erlernen.
And if German is so hard to listen to you then just don't listen to it. Easy as Kuchen.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-04 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT

See, I've had only one semester of German and I understood the gist of what you said there. Complicated language my ass--it's easier than English in a lot of ways, if we're comparing, and the rules even MAKE SENSE. :/

I would disagree, but I'm just thinking of Dylan Moran's 'You couldn't speak German 'cause it's a horrible sound. It sounds like typewriters eating tinfoil being kicked down a stairs. Somebody is talking to you in German, they're saying: (accent) "Haken die haken." You think: "What is happening to you from behind and how can we make it stop? Please, go away."

Which isn't quite fair, but it's funny.

Your opinion is less relevant than the opinion of a two year old. Or a gnat.
