Re: human x non-human ships

I know people mentioned Lord of the Rings, but there's also Luthien/Beren and Tuor/Idril in The Silmarillion for the Human/Elf pairing. And if you venture into the fandom, there's plenty of cross-species stuff.

Human/Cyborg (I don't think anyone has given you any examples for this yet): Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell (with extra genderfuckery subtext!), and Chobits.

Cool, thanks.

I'm super conflicted about this.

I want it to happen like right now out of sheer morbid curiosity about what might happen, and I don't want it to happen ever. At the same time.

I just want some fucking answers, goddamn.

Hang on OP,your fiance? You've managed to get engaged and keep a good relationship with family. I think you need to view those people as your core support group, and friends as transient and enjoy them whilst you are with them.

Hard to do I know, I angst all the time about friends, but I don't have a close family or a partner.

Are you blind, OP? She's smoking and I don't even watch this show.

I completely understand that. I'm still struggling with finishing Dragon Age: Origins. It's the curse of people who like story in their gaming.

But that said, may I make recommendations?

Bastion. May take 12-15 hours, tops. I know people who finished it in 4-5 hours. Amazing story and beyond amazing soundtrack; XBox or PC.

Limbo. Same time frame. Couldn't finish it, not due to lack of time, but because it scared the stuffing out of me. Deeply, deeply atmospheric.

Braid. Haven't played this yet, but it gets great reviews, is a platformer so it's stage-based, and apparently not very long.

Portal. I know people who've finished it in 4 hours, and if you haven't played it, you're missing out on some of the funniest black comedy ever. XBox and PC both. Portal II is much longer, but Portal is self-contained.

Challenge accepted.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Right. Far better to provide a free-fire range for criminals and crazies instead of letting people have the means to possibly protect themselves.

Or far better to work at keeping weapons that make it easy to kill dozens of people in seconds away from criminals and crazies instead of just leaving it up to the kindergarten teacher and her students to protect themselves.

How's that saying go? "If it saves one life..." Works both ways.

It also applies to the risk of being really free with all weapons or hypothetically putting guns in classrooms with kids. If the teacher gets killed trying to take down the guy wearing body armor lives are saved if he has to reload too.

What can be done about it?

Give hime some Paracetamol. Maybe with a side helping of very dark chocolate.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so excited for this show too, especially since I saw last night how damn good it actually is.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Just make sure not to eat anyone's brain.

No really. You're prone to getting a slew of neurological diseases if you do.

I bought far cry 3...oh wow it'd be 2 months ago now? I've only had time to go through the opening theme and the introduction fight. Life combined with the stupid save points means I have just not had time to advance in the game. It's got the handy little arrow telling me where to go when I open it, but I am just too damn busy with life to sit down with it and have some fun.

The highlight of my day is reading book on public transport.

/resenting life greatly right now

Eh, she's just a cute little cat that's floating around the internet. I like her stumpy little legs and the videos

The cat's owner is a 5 year old boy?????? How smart do you expect him to be?????

Re: Hey, artist, work for me...FOR FREE!!!! (rant)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Delete them, it's just some dumbass spamming everyone in the hopes someone will do free art for them.

Yeah it's happened to me a few times. Depending on who they are/how they requested it I'll give either a polite "Commissions are closed right now" or a "lololol you're kidding right? fuck off"
Or if tired, delete it

Mine used to unleash SBDs regularly when he was a kitten. Luckily he grew out of it, but for a while, he'd be sitting on my lap purring away and suddenly, without warning I'd be enveloped in this cloud of stench.

Yeah, this makes sense.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, gee, if this administration would enforce the laws already on the damn books before they tried to pass more, maybe I'd trust them more. At this point, I trust them as far as I can throw my house.

http://www.politifact.com/wisconsin/statements/2013/feb/03/mayors-against-illegal-guns/us-files-criminal-charges-fraction-gun-denial-case/

"In 2009, the FBI 'referred more than 71,000' cases of people failing background checks when trying to buy a gun to another federal agency, 'but U.S. attorneys ultimately prosecuted only 77 of them.'"

That is miserable and a horrible dereliction of duty. These people talk a good game, but when it comes to actually doing anything, they fall down on the job. Big time.

Wow, that is Not Cool. :(

(For anyone that might take the above advice seriously - don't.)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'll eat people before I eat meat.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're agreeing that lack of gun control is a problem and that people have way too much access to deadly weapons. Because not enforcing gun control laws we have is a big complaints of pro-gun control people.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Coming in late, I know, but I had sort of the same reaction. Except with the vegetarian lapse (because I doubt that I would ever give up meat)...but I did go out and buy ~nice~ meat to cook before watching the premier. Maybe this show will inspire me to eat better.

Excellent recommendations! Might I add some?

JOURNEY. Two hours tops. If you have a PS3, it's an absolute must-play. In fact, it's a must-play even if you don't have a PS3. Just do whatever you can to get yourself to this game. Trust me, it's worth it. Two of the most beautiful, moving, emotional hours you've ever had experiencing a work of art.

FLOWER, while you're at it, is another great entry by thatgamecompany. Absolutely breathtaking game. It's a Wordsworthian poem in videogame form.

ICO and SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS. Both beautiful little masterpieces. ICO is roughly 7-8 hours, SotC is around 12.

SILENT HILL 2. If you're up for a scare, that is. Easily some of the best storytelling I've ever seen in a videogame. It doesn't JUST frighten the pants off you -- the entire game is drenched in torment, tragedy, and disturbing symbolism. A difficult experience, but a masterpiece. Definitely worth the nightmares.

TO THE MOON. Absolutely beautiful. Touching, emotional story, charmingly nostalgic music and visuals. You will weep buckets.

OP, you don't need to force yourself through colossal RPGs with hours and hours of level-grinding. If you search for them, you'll find amazingly powerful little games that don't dilute themselves by dragging it out with pointlessness. Hopefully you enjoy some of these recs! :)
