Yeah, he stabbed a totally innocent pregnant woman who just happened to be there minding her own business!

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Good to know it's okay to stab pregnant women if there's a good ~reason~

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
uh... i dont watch this show but your argument here is utterly dumb. yes, it's ok to stab anyone if there's good enough reason. that's why shit like self-defense exists. why are pregnant women special in this regard

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
So in other words you're talking out of your ass.

The pregnant woman was defenseless in the situation. He was the attacker.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
no in other words i'm only talking about the argument the anon i responded to was making

they stated "it's okay to stab a pregnant woman if there's good enough reason" with sarcastic tildes as if there is never a reason good enough. that is dumb

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I...are you being serious?

[personal profile] sugar_spun 2013-04-06 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
No, they're right. They're not arguing that this stabbing was okay. They're arguing exactly what they said: self-defense is a good enough reason to stab absolutely anyone. So acting as pregnant women are somehow immune to this is stupid. If some preggo lady comes up and tries to kill you or your kid, what, you're supposed to let her? Because she's pregnant?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Did he stab the pregnant woman in self-defense?
helenadax: (spartacus)

[personal profile] helenadax 2013-04-05 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It was revenge because she -his domina- had raped him several times, tried to murder him and also beaten his girlfriend and sent her away to be raped too.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
So he killed an innocent baby in other words. Good to know.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
A fetus, actually, but essentially. :)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
NA

I find my own reaction to this fascinating, because revenge-killing a pregnant person does smack of collateral damage, but I believe fervently that one should be able to terminate a pregnancy at any time, dammit. Hmm, what is my train of thought?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I figure it as: that's a fetus the mother chose to carry till it became a baby. Without the interference of the murderer, it would've been born and been a person.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-07 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
lol.

just adding that the pregnant woman doesn't die, just the fetus. he purposely went after the baby i think, since it was a stab in the stomach, not beheading or something else.

unless that isn't what you meant, idk.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-05 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The stab was also supposed to kill her, and was assumed to have killed her until she showed back up in season 2. I think Crixus was just trying to kill her a way that was deliberately cruel (considering how desperately she wanted a kid) but it was definitely intended to kill her.

[personal profile] rivia 2013-04-05 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well.. yeah. But the person I was replying to sounded like they thought that killing the fetus was just "collateral damage" and I always read that scene like Crixus intended to kill the fetus. It was definitely cruel, but (it's been a while since I've watched s1 so bear with me) I got the vibe that he didn't want a child of his raised as a Roman, and that tied into it.

well an outside force destroying a fetus against the woman's will removes her choice in the matter. it makes perfect sense to me that as someone who values bodily autonomy and a woman's right to maintain or end a pregnancy, you would be upset by the fact that that choice was taken away from her-- whether that means by forced pregnancy or forced abortion.

[personal profile] helenadax 2013-04-05 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
He wanted to kill her after everything she had done to him. The fact that she was pregnant wasn't going to change that.

Lucretia was my favourite female character, I loved her and Batiatus, all their scenes were gold. But when it comes to Lucretia and Crixus no way you're going to make me believe that he was the bad guy here.

Agreed.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
This so much. I loved Lucretia but she wasn't exactly innocent.

SPOILERS

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if it balances some idiotic scale for you, Lucretia later on cuts a baby out of his/her mother's womb and dives over a cliff with the baby while the mother crawls after her, begging her not to.

Does that make it okay for you now?

Re: SPOILERS

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
No because she was driven insane by what Crixus did to her. That just makes what Crixus did worse because Crixus wasn't insane.

Re: SPOILERS

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
So Crixus wasn't driven a little bit to the edge by Lucretia's previous actions? Are you one of those people that think female-on-male rape isn't a thing?

'Poor' Lucretia would have gutted him if given half a chance. As far as I'm concerned, his action was justified. She took from him, he took it back. The scales balanced.

Re: SPOILERS

(Anonymous) 2013-04-06 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
She was legit insane by the end. There's a huge difference.

And stabbing a pregnant woman is not justified regardless of who she is unless it's self-defense.
