I dunno, man, I've known someone (IRL, even!) who really did think that way. Granted, it was years ago, and granted, the someone was totally crazycakes on top of everything else. But she really did think that way.

Then again, her idea of gay marriage was to marry a gay man and, and I quote, "have his gay babies." I told her it doesn't work that way and she called me a racist.

I'm not exactly sure where I was going with this so just enjoy my anecdote of the most genuinely batshit yaoi fan I've ever met.

That is some really delightful, first-rate batshittery.

Oh, that's just the tip of the iceberg. I actually knew her in high school, where she gabbered openly and loudly about yaoi during lunch period (which I found impolite.) And wouldn't you know it, we both went to the same community college, where she tried to join the campus rainbow alliance and was kicked out after like, two months, because she was extremely hostile to the other girls -- she had this pretty strong, burning hatred of lesbians for some reason.

She was a walking parody and I really wonder where she is now.

I had a friend once who only wanted to date bisexual men so they could have sex in front of her with other men.

She once hounded a guy because she found out he was bisexual and got her friend to join in. It was so messed up. I just couldn't with their disgusting bullshit.

Fuck people sometimes.

I admit that whole thought process makes my skin crawl, but I know tons of guys who want to date a bisexual woman so she can have sex in front of them with another woman. (I get it a lot because I am bisexual, so the amount of dudes who I've slept with and then later were like "So... if I find a girl you like will you do her/have a threesome with me too?")

EDIT: Oh. And kind of related in the skin-crawly aspect of things: When dudes tell me "I'd be so angry if my girlfriend cheated on me with another man, but if she had sex with a woman, I'd be okay with it." Aaarrrrgggg.

I'm so sorry that has happened to you. Guys can be such gross pigs sometimes. I've heard guys saying that as well to other women and it's so disrespectful.

That's horrible as well >:| Hearing stories like this always make me doubt the human race and its intelligence.

First thing: personally I don't mind it, but I can understand how that can be... icky. :S

Second thing: I... don't really understand this? My current boyfriend said he was fine with me sleeping with women, but not with other men - and I don't see why I should be creeped out by that. The "not sleeping with other men" thing in his case was to do with self-image and his belief in what I found attractive about him, rather than because he thought I wouldn't be as emotionally invested in a lesbian relationship. I would have assumed - and did assume - that to be the main reason, even if he hadn't spelled it out in detail to me.

buuuuut yeah I guess maybe that's because open relationship plus consent and information =/= cheating so.... idk, it's probably not even relevant! I suppose cheating implies more of an emotional betrayal? I still don't really get it though (and tbh it would be great if a guy I was with said, "I'd be so angry if my girlfriend cheated on me with another man, but if she had sex with a woman, I'd be okay with it." because, well, good for me).

I just can't help but hearing it as anything other than "Women aren't as threatening as men/women count less as men/women can't actually be really into women, so there's no reason for me to be threatened by this." I get the whole "Well, she can offer you things I can't" aspect of things, in an abstract kind of way, but you very, very rarely hear "I'd be pissed if my boyfriend cheated on me with another woman, but I wouldn't mind if he cheated on me with a dude," whereas I've heard a ton of guys say the opposite.

I'm totally all for open relationships, by the way. I couldn't ever do it (I have trust issues and I'm kind of insecure. I try very hard not to let it enter into my relationships, and think I do a fairly good job most of the time, but I don't think I could if I was like "Oh, my SO is sleeping with this other person. WHAT IF THEY LIKE HER/HIM MORE THAN ME?!"), but I understand that there's a lot of people who can't do monogomy either.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-08 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Allow me to be the first then. Before my husband and I decided we were poly, I straight up told him: "I don't care if you sleep with men, at all. But right now, I have some trust issues concerning other women, so I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't sleep with them."

He agreed, and asked me to only sleep with men for a while. I got over my issues, he got over his, and we decided we were comfortable sleeping with both genders.

I've known people like this IRL, too. I think if fiction can teach people to be accepting and less shitty and judgmental, that's great! But saying you want gay marriage to be legal because you want ~your gays~ to be able to marry and bringing fictional OTPs into a discussion about real world rights for actual human beings seems like the kind of thing the type of people with those severely warped and crazy-cake ideas would do.
cloud_riven: Close-up of an open-mouthed piglet! Is it recoiling? Or side-eyeing? Maybe saying, "HEY YOU TWO SHOULD KISS"? Mystery! (eeeeeeehhhhhh)
