I have no idea who that is, but why the fuck would someone walk outside in that shit?
It's basically lingerie.

Cry for attention much? No thank you.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Because they liked the look and felt good in it? How one dresses is not always about the audience.

Damn I better go to work in a t-shirt and panties tomorrow cause it feels good

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a dress in the picture. However if a t-shirt and panties is not breaking any of your work dress codes, I say go for it. Rock on out.

I'm just questioning the logic of wearing what feels good regardless of what's appropriate. Transparent dress with a bra and panties then, I'm sure that'd go over great next time we have a board meeting

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Appropriate is the key word here. It's an awards show - anything is appropriate. The more shocking the better. Board meeting? Not appropriate.

I just don't get why you care to police what people can and cannot wear. If you don't want to wear something, don't. Nobody is forcing you to wear transparent clothes and nobody is forcing you to look at others wearing it. Look away and let it be.

That's not equivalent. It's about dressing in a way that makes you feel confident and comfortable in whatever surroundings you are dressing for. You're obviously not going to feel comfortable at work in a bra and panties.

I don't know if it matters to you, but she was asked to put on that dress back on for photos, unaware that it was see through:

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
He said it was a lot MORE see-through, which implies that it wasn't a shock, just more than they realized. I get that sometimes fabric behaves in startling ways under a powerful flash, but there's now way she didn't realize the dress was semi-transparent in the first place.

To run with that analogy - your co-workers and other people around you would probably not feel comfortable either.

I'd say when you're talking about the red carpet, which is literally solely for the sake of posing in your clothes for pictures, it is pretty damn much about the audience. Or, at least, in presenting yourself in a certain way for your audience.

[personal profile] sugar_spun 2013-04-10 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
And I don't swear in my daily, polite conversation to strangers or acquaintances, but I could.

Do I have absolutely every right to swear as much as I want as often as I want as loud as I want? Sure. Am I still a rude and thoughtless human being for doing so? You betcha.

I know people will come down on you for slut shaming but yeah, maybe I'm just old-fashioned but I don't think visible underwear is appropriate on either sex. I mean, maybe a tiny flash of a bra under a top or something but something like this photo is just ridiculous

It's usually just people showing off how IN SHAPE AND AMAZING THEIR BODIES ARE which is why it's obnoxious

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you feel about bikinis?
ext_81845: amuro ray from mobile suit gundam, in his underwear, from the doan's island episode (WTF?!)

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2013-04-10 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
People don't typically wear them to awards shows, the whole point of a bikini is to wear it at the beach so you can tan or swim in it

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
So your only issue is that she wore this to an awards show?
ext_81845: amuro ray from mobile suit gundam, in his underwear, from the doan's island episode (WTF?!)

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2013-04-10 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, it's about what's appropriate to wear where. I don't get why this is such a difficult concept for people

[personal profile] sugar_spun 2013-04-10 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a pretty big reason. If you're walking down the red carpet, you're doing it to show off your outfit to total strangers. To have presence amongst them. Essentially you are there for OTHER PEOPLE. And if you want to flash everyone because you are so ~free~? Oh, maybe it's your right, but you're a pretty rude person. Certainly I'd have no issue if basically every private establishment banned her from the premises, as is their right.

Yes, how dare people take pride in their bodies - especially if they've worked extra hard to look a certain way!

That being said, I fully support a person's right to criticize another person's red carpet choice from a sartorial standpoint. And I think that considering the intricacy of the beading, the visible underwear clashed with the dress's pattern and was distracting. I would have prefered nude-bodysuit underneath if she felt compelled to wear something so transparent.

Of course, I think it'd be awesome if we all could be more naked in public, so I fully support attempts to lower the modesty standards

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2013-04-10 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's fine to take pride in your body, there is a difference between that and walking out practically naked so nobody has a choice but to look at it (swimwear is different, that was a dumb analogy for anon to make -- I mean, who wants to wear a ton of clothing while they're in the water?) It's like, maybe I don't want to see your breasts. Maybe I don't think they look all that great. Nudist colonies exist for a reason

And yeah, appropriateness of dress aside, this is a pretty gross dress/coverup/whatever it is
visp: (Default)

[personal profile] visp 2013-04-10 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I like the dress, I just think it'd have gone better with a lining or nude bodysuit.

[identity profile] childings.livejournal.com 2013-04-10 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Possibly, it looks like it was meant to be worn over a slip or something

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. The beadwork is gorgeous, but the visible underwear spoils the pattern.

" It's like, maybe I don't want to see your breasts."

You talk like those people stalk you and dance in front of you all the time. If you don't want to see tits then just look away once you've noticed them. Or do tits literally cause you pain?
Do you also hate looking at male tits? Probably not ;)

(Anonymous) 2013-04-10 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
If it were anyone else, I might assume that she wore the dress not knowing how it would react to the intensity of a ton of camera flashes going off/the lighting situation of wherever she was. So, that may actually be what happened.

On the other hand, even if she was aware of how it looked, as much as I really DON'T need to see her boobs and underwear, she's not dressing for me, she's dressing for herself.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-11 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
This. I think it looks trashy, period. I don't want to see some guy's boxers hanging out of his pants any more than I want to see a girl's bra straps or whale tail. Keep that under your clothes where it belongs.
