Favorite canon without fandom?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-16 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
What's your favorite show/movie/book/other piece of media that has no fandom that you've ever encountered (whether you wish it had one or not)?

OR

What's your favorite piece of media that you've had absolutely no desire to look for the fandom for?

I mean. I'd say everything has at least 2-3 stories if you look hard enough. But I wish the Chronicles of Riddick fandom had been bigger. I am hoping the new movie with kick start it.

I am trying to think of old books or something I read as a kid. But really...I don't want a fandom for anything like that. I want to keep those things safe and protected from the internet. So, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Rugrats, and Roseanne. I don't know if they have fandoms. And I don't want to know.

If Blade Runner has a fandom that lasted past the 1990s, I haven't seen it. And I'm more than happy to keep it that way.

Kaibutsu Oujo for me. I've seen one or two roleplayers but that's about it. Shame, it's one of my favorite manga.

I loved Lost and watched it religiously but never once felt the need to look in on the fandom. I know nothing about the fandom - it may be/have been awesome - I just never had the itch to discuss the show with peope or read fic or find someone to squee with.

Future Boy Conan had no fandom in my country until recently and it's incredibly miniscule. This is baffling as it was directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It's probably my favorite anime of all time, too.

I kinda stay in the fringes of most fandoms that aren't anime or mecha-related for some reason, I guess cause those are my primary fandoms and I try to limit the time I spend doing fandom-related things.

Rarely do I ever get involved in a movie fandom. I enjoy a lot of movies and it's good to see fanart of movies I enjoyed, but that's it. The only exception would be the Antoine Doinel movies because I love the character, but that's a series of movies. With most movies I feel like there's only so much material to work with

I'm actually writing short tumblr posts on such books...there are just too many.

Good Omens. I know it has a fandom, I've wandered onto the periphery once or twice (read a fic written entirely from the POV of one of Crowley's houseplants, that was cool), but mostly I find the text so perfect and self-contained that I don't need a fandom to feel fulfilled.

(I also don't ship Crowley and Aziraphale romantically, which seems to be what 90% of the fandom is focused on, so there's that too.)

For question number one; Near Dark.

I think I saw one piece of fanart for it and that piece was like almost a decade old.

Still, it's my favorite vampire movie and one of my favorite movies in general.

Little, Big is my favorite thing. It doesn't have a fandom. That's okay though, it really shouldn't

I wanted a fandom for "The Black Magician" trilogy by Trudi Canavan - the original trilogy, not that failtastic new one - but there was next to nothing to be found, and nothing new being put out.

Media I didn't want/need a fandom for? Burn Notice and Fruits Basket. The cannon for both of them were so satisfying I felt no need to look for fic or anything.

Huh, I went to answer that question and realised that the answer is a ton of fandoms.

Community, Doctor Who and Game of Thrones are the three big ones that I really love, but wouldn't touch the fandoms with a ten foot pole.

Things I wish had fandoms: Gears of War, Dead or Alive (I SHIP OKAY), The Authority, Uncharted, (an active) Metal Gear Solid (fandom)...

Queston #1: Thieves & Kings. It's a Canadian comic book, and apparently it's quite obscure because I've never met anyone else who's read it. There seems to be no fandom whatsoever, which makes me sad because there is so much potential for fanfic! Especially since many of the characters are thousands of years old and (so far) much of their backstory has been left unexplained!

Question #2: A Series of Unfortunate Events, Artemis Fowl and anything written by Jane Austen. Especially Jane Austen. I think her books stand by themselves and don't need to be expanded on at all. Also, 2001: A Space Odyssey (I'm not sure if there's much of a fandom, but it does have it's own section on FF.net).

For question two-- Sherlock Holmes quickly became that for me. I love the stories, I love certain adaptions (including, yes, Sherlock) but I would really rather not with any of the fandoms.

Never had a desire to look for the fandom: Breaking Bad.

I've honestly never had the urge.

They're pretty active, but I have no desire to look up the fandoms for Star Trek TNG or Voyager. Enterprise I've peered into a little, but only on a very casual basis.

Besides, honestly, a lot of Star Trek stuff I see is for TOS/reboot, which I'm not overly fond of, or DS9, which I haven't seen yet ;_;

Honestly, the only thing I can think of where dropping the name doesn't start a conversation is the Geneforge series of games, but Spiderweb has their own forums for that.

LOL don't even get me started

Murder Rooms (a total of two stories on the entire Web; and this is not to mention the book!canon)

Catch-22 (11; no fandom) and Closing Time (0)

Father Brown

The Flying Inn

^These are only the ones I wish had a fandom.

And then there are Herriot, Orwell, Huksley, Chandler, and The Space Trilogy.

Bertrand Russell, Dead Men Do Tell Tales by William Maples and The Double Helix have no fandom for purely technical reasons.

And sometimes I regret so much that less popular Holmes adaptations (the Russian one, The Sign of Four et c.) are fandomless. It would be great to have at least some works for these.

The Tamír Triad technically had a fandom... I think? But I haven't seen online the three or four people I knew of who liked it in years.

I'm okay with this though. I would love to have plot discussion but I doubt I could ever read fic.

No fandom: Parks and Recreation.

Don't want to find fandom: Six Feet Under. Maybe when I finish watching it... but honestly, I don't want to read anything about it (fic, theories/analysis, etc) because it feels special to me right now.

Anything by Mercedes Lackey.

Man I love the books and the world...but I have noooooooooooooo desire to join the fandom if there is one.

Oh, and Jurassic Park. I'm happy being a fandom of one in private over that. Maybe talk about it excitedly in bursts, but no real desire to find other fans and ~connect~

You know, I've never actually seen Alien(s) fanfiction (for the original movies, not the sequels or the game spinoffs). Odd, that.
