OP
(Anonymous) 2013-04-18 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)Also, I haven't watched the movies, but I'm not fond of superhero fandoms. I've tried Batman, Spider-Man, et cetera.... It just doesn't do it.
Re: OP
Granted, i like superhero movies, but the marvel series is a lot better then the first three spider mans and all of the batmans in my opinion.

I mean, just because it's a style of cooking known for its spiciness, that doesn't mean that's all there is to it. At least they could have some naan bread. (For the purposes of this analogy, let's say the naan bread is pretty people--pleasant enough for the majority of the folks in question, whatever your tastes.)

Re: OP
If you found something you really enjoyed and wanted to share with your friends and they shit all over it, would you want to hang around and listen to them mock/deride/bitch about the thing you like?

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 03:10 am (UTC)(link)I never really understood this sentiment... Yeah, I understand that a new fandom can be all-consuming for a while, but it's possible to be invested in multiple fandoms at the same time... It's not like you have to completely abandon your old fandoms just because you're going through the honeymoon phase with a new one.
Re: OP
Then again, I'm old.

(Anonymous) 2013-04-19 04:46 am (UTC)(link)Well that's your problem right there, OP...
But in all seriousness, OP, if you really miss your friends, you should give the movie a try - if only to have a thread of commonality connecting to your old friends even if you don't actually join the fandom. You'll at least know what they are talking about, which can be very helpful in staying connected even if you choose not to actually participate. :)

But really, Avengers didn't "steal" your fandom. People just got tired of their old fandom. It happens.
