Well, the thing is, usually it's done so clumsily that you're like "cool story bro. Now what did that have to do with anything?" So even if I agree with the point, it's still annoying.

Yeah; I can't think of any time where this type of thing has been done well, even if I agree. It's rarely a marker of a good story, in any case.

Blarg, this. I'm Christian but there are so many Christian fics that read like extended Bible tracks. It's fine to write a story with a message, but you still have to do the STORY part well.

And this is the problem with a lot of explicitly Christian media; it's like the creators realize that there are a lot of conservative Christians who can't handle being exposed to media that doesn't explicitly reference Christianity and will thus consume Christian media regardless of quality, so why bother making it good?

I think it's more an issue of people who want to spread a message seeing media as a great way to do it, rather than people who love media appreciating a message and wanting it to shine through in their work. So you wind up with a lot of low-quality media by people who just see it as another way to preach without really taking the time to understand the art behind said media.

Yeah, and when I'm on Goodreads and I see that a book's tagged "Christian Fiction" I'll click away, even though I know there is some liklihood that books I like could fall under that classification. But, it's too risky.

This reminds me of this Buzzfeed Post: 11 Bands You Might Not Realize Are Christian, except those bands must be doing it right.

I don't think a book/company/whatever has to avoid being noticeably Christian to be good. It just has to tell the truth incorporating God in a realistic way. Heck, one could argue that Les Miserables is a very good "Christian movie" because God's grace and God's law are major themes that run the film.

In truth, I don't think that a book needs to hide its Christianity to be good - it can just be a dangerous business to browse the "Christian Fiction" tag.

Yeah, sad but true. :(

If you are going to mix god and truth in any realistic way it has to begin "God was dead to begin with". You can have the ghost of god turn up to warn the protagonist about the three ghosts of Darwin's Birthday if you want, but god and reality don't mix.

Oh goodie, I was wondering when I'd get another unnecessary anti-theism reply! It's been too long. God bless you. :)

Ergh, this. I know when I was a teen, I had a habit of interjecting my fic with certain viewpoints of mine. It was never executed well, and it was always pretty obvious that I was getting on a soapbox. So whenever I see it in other fics, I generally assume that the author is ~14, at least mentally.

I get that it's tempting to espouse your opinions through a medium that will reach several people, but it's really better to just let the story unfold naturally and then have the characters deal with any possible controversial issues in a way you, as the author, think is most fitting. Shoving in controversy just for the sake of putting your opinion out there is just...really sloppy writing.
