Could this be a fundraiser? I've been to events (mostly in school, where there are certain people such as student politicians who people want to see do silly things) where there's a slave auction of people who volunteer for it, and you bid on a person and the highest bidder gets to make that person do whatever embarrassing/silly public thing they want for a day (within reason, of course).

maybe. But they don't call them "slave auctions" because of the whole...slave connotation. And bidding on people.
