I'm not even IN the One Direction Fandom (though I think their music is okay) but it shows up on my dash from people that I share other fandoms with.

Because I've had the exact same experience you have, is how. :P I've even shipped some RPF stuff in my time, but after seeing One Direction fandom, I realize what it is the people who called RPF creepy were on about. *shudder*

Darren Criss is confirmed super straight by the LA gay scene, and Chris Colfer has or had a boyfriend he was serious with. I think it annoys me more when a guy is confirmed by being in a serious relationship, and TADA, NOYOUSHUTUPTHEY'RETOTALLYACOUPLE.

Not all rps fandoms are the same. Some are admittedly more invasive and crazy than others, but it's not fair to generalize all rps because of one or two fandoms.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I draw a line between real people fic and dead people fic. If a decent amount of time has passed and neither the subjects nor anyone who knew them is likely to come across it and be creeped out or upset, that's different from folks who are alive and well and surfing the internet right now.

Did Shakespeare write about any people alive in his time in sexually explicit situations? If so, yeah, I might side-eye him for that. Although there's also a bit of a gray area if you're talking satire, which traditionally can get away with certain things other forms of fiction can't, perhaps because satire is inherently disrespectful to begin with. Most pornographic fanfic really doesn't fall into that category, however.
