While I don't assume every original character is a self insert, I do understand why most people are resistant to an OC having a main role in fan fiction: because it's fan fiction. We're fans of the canon characters and we want to read about them.

01) SCRUBS SECRET FTW! Although, I love them all better as a friendship OT4, sans Tarla. They have such a great friendship dynamic that it's almost squicky for me to pair them off together. ^.^;;

15) I know very little about Gintama, but I agree. I'd tap that too, and I'm a straight girl.
18) I can see where you're coming from, but I just really loved his role during the whole Save Gaara arc. It was really something to see him care for and go to all those extremes to save Gaara compared to when the Sand Sibs first appeared he was pretty terrified of him. It made for some great development on Kankurou's part, and after that part I loved him all the more for it.
29) Ha ha, seriously. Sokka's always done it for me, but Aang? HOW DID YOU GET SO HOT IN SEASON THREE?! O.O!

1. I know what you are going through. I started watching Scrubs over the summer and I just feel in love with the show.

21. I understand completely and am exactly the same way. I KNOW I'm a good writer, but sometimes I get so scared that I'm really not. You've just gotta keep writing and yeah, you'll get better, but how you are now isn't necessarily a bad thing at all. You can ALWAYS get better.

8 - better than Rayne *shudders* I like ones where everyone's happy (and I adore Simon/Kaylee) but Jayne Kaylee isn't that bad. I can see an OT3 coming out of this, if it's worked right (Simon having to stitch Jayne up, that could lead to some action and later deeper feelings etc. in addition to how they could both feel for Kaylee) Our society tends to frown down on relationships that aren't monogamous, but that doesn't mean they can't exist (obviously, lol)

10 - I know this would totally throw your OC out, but you could write a romance about him and Helen (from Firefly episode Heart of Gold). With Petaline having taken over for Nandi, there could be some call back for help with something small from Serenity and after another night or two with Jayne something could occur and she could leave Deadwood on Serenity or something like that as a starting point? If you do something like that, I'd love to read it!
