Yanno I can relate to the person that probably does this. I never know what to say when someone makes a response to what I've written, and it always seems incredibly doushy to go on and on about story arch points when, once I've penned something, it's like an out of sight, out of mind thing (mostly because I write for fests and the stories are finished months before they're posted). So I just say thanks.

I've had teachers who wrote the same thing on everyone's final-year report. Pisses me off even more since it's a job they're being paid for.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-25 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
in what reality do you live in where a teacher's job is writing notes on a report? Because I'm pretty sure that where I'm from unique comments for special snowflake students are really low on the list of teachers' priorities.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Part of a teacher's job is providing feedback on student work.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Something hard to do when they have 30 or more students.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
Then just admit that you're just mediocre at your job. There are teachers with more students than than on their roster who nevertheless go above and beyond, and there are those who... don't. The latter aren't the exceptional ones.

You are an idiot who needs to seek ego-strokes from someone who is decently pa8d and not constantly abused by their workplace system. (DA)

You chased other students down the halls only to get "have a great summer" in your yearbook, didn't you?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-25 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
There are only so many ways you can say "thanks" before you start repeating yourself.

I get a fic commenter who always puts the exact same comment on any fanfic. Heh.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-25 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen someone similar. They go from "I liked this" to "I loved this" to "I really loved this". It always makes me smile for some reason - like they don't know what to say but they want to say something, you know? I think it's sweet.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
They probably don't. I used to do that until a lot of fic authors whined about it enough and that stopped me (and others) and now they wonder where all the comments are! lol.

I can tell you in detail where you went wrong, give constructive crit, grammar edits, whatever, but, unfortunately, when I like something I just.....like it, love it, really like it, etc. I have a hard time putting my finger on it, usually, of what I loved about it. Sometimes I can figure it out. Sometimes I'll point out sometimes I really loved about the fic, but, I'm generally clueless about analyzing stuff I love.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
DA, but I don't mind repeat "loved it" comments bc lbr, my precious ego. My problem is when the comment is so... like there's this one person who comments on a fic I'm following and every time it is just "thanks for writing this chapter". I can't even articulate why it bugs me but I'm sure it's just me being weird. I've never been annoyed by a non trolling/hate comment on my own stuff though.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-27 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
DA, but I certainly don't mind "I really like this" comments. As far as I'm concerned, that means I'm doing something right! I don't need to know exactly why you liked something I wrote unless you want to tell me, and if you can't figure out how to word it or what to pick out, just letting me know that you enjoyed it is a perfectly good response.

You must not have had to do that yourself then, hmm? When I still posted graphics there's a reason why I only responded to comments that actually had a question or something else I can respond to, because saying
thanks!
Thank you!
thanks c:
thank you, i'm glad you like it!
ty!
... etc, over and over with variations in between is tedious. Nevermind that it makes me feel like an ass for only having that to say but not really knowing what else to go with too.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-25 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know why but this is the funniest secret I've read in months.

Can't you just stop reading the comments if you know it's only ever the same guy responding?

I do repeat comments on dA, when I get thanks from people for favouriting their work. I leave longer more pithy comments for when I am actually saying something about a picture.

But I have to agree with one implied sentiment here, I like when I make a long pithy comment on a fic (or piece of art) if the writer/creator actually engages with an actual reply that addresses what I've said instead of just a boring unengaging "Thanks".

(Anonymous) 2013-06-01 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes there's no much to say other than thanks when the comment isn't anything more than "I love this!" I'm not being ungrateful, but if they didn't say anything specific about the fic, how am I supposed to respond besides the usual "Thanks" "I'm glad you liked it" etc etc etc.
