F!S Anon Meme (the ??th)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with recaptchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

(Today's post is below.)

Honestly I think if they had choosen a POC, SJWs would just get their panties in a twist over that. "OH LOOK AT WHITE BOY KIRK PUNCHING A BROWN GUY IN THE FACE! Of COURSE the brown guy is the terrorist."

They were going to get bitched at anyway, might as well go with the actor who has a fan following.

What they should have done was just not use Khan. There were plenty of white villains Cumberbatch could have played if they desperately wanted him, and there were plenty of white villains they could have used to avoid dark skin = terrorist assumptions.

They made the wrong choice for both.

This! Or they could have, y'know, invented a new villain. Instead of retconning the Eugenics Wars to take place in Jolly Olde England.

AYRT

I think they were trying to steal some of the WoK nostalgia, and the thing is, it actually worked for them. They just take the most well-known things from WoK (in this case, a certain death behind a certain wall and the damn KHAN! shriek) and bam, their movie was practically made for them. I'm so annoyed that the movie is being received so well because of this, in fact.

I wouldn't hold out on them creating a new villain, considering they don't even seem to be Star Trek fans. Why they didn't use, say, Gary Mitchell is a mystery though.

....wow, I'm having a hard time imagining how the reboot managed to cram "a certain death behind a certain wall" and Khan basically stabbing Kirk's kid in the gut on the Genesis planet together...but this is why I never have and never will watch the reboot.

So is the next movie going to be "The Search For Zachary Quinto"??

SPOILERS (if you care)

Kirk died, not Spock, while doing the exact same thing. The Khan shriek then came from Spock (because why the hell not, apparently.) Oh, and Kirk's death was temporary, because Khan's blood is apparently ~magic~ and can revive the dead.

It was enormously stupid.

...I was with you up until the magic blood.

I saw someone point this out and it's very true - I think if you actually look at the movie, it's MUCH more of a reboot of ST6 than of Wrath of Khan. It just happens to have Khan shoehorned in there and the classic "KHAAAAAAAAN" note from the ending.
