I'm sorry, but the Batman movie is as bad as everyone says it is. It's not even funny bad. It's bad bad. I don't like Clockwork Orange because I'm not 17, but putting that goddamn shithouse Batman Forever movie above Fight Club is a crime.

Is that the really bad Batman? I thought the really bad one was the one with Clooney.

They are one and the same. It is unwatchable.

Batman Forever stars Val Kilmer, not Clooney. But you're right in that the Clooney one is unwatchable.

Ah, yes, you are correct. I had Batman and Robin and Batman Forever mixed up. I'd actually say Batman and Robin is worse.

Oh, it is. It so is.

Enjoyed the hell out of both of them. wooops

I did, too, haha. I'm kind of confused about why people find Forever and Batman & Robin so offensive, especially when in the same breath they'll praise the Adam West version, which I don't exactly remember as being the pinnacle of seriousness and taste.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-27 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Probably because with the Adam West version everyone involved knew it was being delightfully cheesy while in Batman and Robin they're earnest.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-27 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Huh, personally I thought Batman and Robin was also aware that it was fun and cheesy...I mean, I would have to question the sanity of anyone involved in it who thought they were making Shakespeare.

Whoops, this was me above.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-27 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
It is by far worse. My friends and I got so tired of watching it (we were in a cheap movie theater with like no one else there) we started a food fight instead.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Naw, it's really not that bad. It's campy and fun, which I think some people generally dislike about it.

[identity profile] brandiweed.livejournal.com 2013-05-27 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it was even good camp. Camp has a certain amount of affection for the subject it mocks, and I got the impression screenwriter Akiva Goldsman really thought he was "above" genre stuff (his crap screenplay for Lost In Space comes to mind as well).

(Anonymous) 2013-05-27 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I liked it when I first saw it. I didn't know anything about the Batman mythos at the time - now that I do, I don't like how much they fucked with Batgirl.

(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
There was this one, which was awful and starred Val Kilmer, and then there was Batman and Robin, which was awful and starred George Clooney. The fact that this person puts that abomination of a film above Fight Club makes me seriously question their taste in...anything.

I would definitely much rather sit through Batman Forever than Batman & Robin.

It is Badman.

Now you're insulting Strong Badman.

"I don't like Clockwork Orange because I'm not 17"

I am reasonably certain a 17-year-old is not going to get the social commentary/satire out of Clockwork Orange that....exists. In the book anyway. If you think only 17-year-olds like Clockwork Orange because of "the old ultra-violence" the point has sailed completely over your head and now resides a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away.

Did I misread your comment?

(Anonymous) 2013-05-26 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
You really think 17-year-olds don't like things because the social commentary (that they know about obviously) makes them look smart for liking it?

17-year-olds are dumb, but not that dumb. It's the age where you START to care about looking smart.

[personal profile] dethtoll 2013-05-26 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you did. I don't really care enough to get into a protracted debate about it though.

[personal profile] ariakas 2013-05-27 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
You sure know some dim-witted 17-year-olds. The social commentary is exactly why edgy teens love both Fight Club and A Clockwork Orange. At least, the ones I hung out with in high school.

I thought it was a good film when I was 17 and still do. *shrug*
