Yeah, I'd love to see more JoJo fanworks! The anime has meant an upswing in terms of Japanese fanart and doujinshi (though there was a lot of lovely stuff to be found before as well!), but English fanfics... not so much, no. I wrote a couple back in the day, when the fandom was an everyone-knows-everyone sorta thing -- now, I don't really know where the fandom hangs out? I'm guessing Tumblr, which I suppose is another incentive for me to finally get an account.

It's a very long series, so for many of us it's hard to get into it and no new fans = the fandom gets smaller as the time goes on.

I know that feeling, anon ;) It's just a problem that the Western anime/manga fandom doesn't know it, which is a pity :( It's a really great series and deserves WAY more love. But yeah, length and copyrighted band names make things difficult...

I started writing fics like whoa after getting into JoJo (some SBR, JoJolion and Vento Aureo) and I wish there was a LOT more fic :/

Welcome to the any anime fandom ever (not counting huge popular fandoms estabilished for 10 years, like, dunno, YGO or pokemon). No matter how good, popular the series is, it's english speaking fans won't produce fanwork, ever. Maybe because these days writing fics only seems viable if you're doing it for a huge fandom, and they tend to be limited to live action US/UK movies and series.

Why is that? As someone who likes reading fic more than looking at fanart, it's so frustrating.

The fandoms are so small and short-lived that many authors think is pointless to write for an anime/manga fandom :/

Anime and manga have a stigma against them in English-speaking fandom. "Anime is for kids", people who say they've grown out of it, and particularly nowadays the whole weeaboo thing and related negative overtones. There are good authors who write in anime and manga fandoms, but they can be difficult to find.

I love JJBA enough that if I did fic for it I'd want to do it right and capture the energy and tone; perhaps that's a concern that's holding other authors back?

with super huge fandoms, there is a flood of terrible fic written by fans who don't care so much about writing as much as the fandom (and the attention), so there's not as much fear of having ridicule fall to you!

I'm just beginning to dip my toes into the series after stumbling across a Let's Play of the Vento Aureo game, and I'd love it if anyone has recs.

There's this hylarious one of Part 5 that is just spot on. It starts with Trish asking Narancia to go buy a very intimate girl item. It went downhill from there (in the good sense):

Senza Fine gotta be my favourite Jojo fic. It depicts Giorno and Mista in a relationship and I just loved the characterization and the bitter sweetness. Post Part 5, so spoilers.

Another good one and definitely more light hearted (though with some UST) is this one of SBR, that depicts Johny and Gyro...doing laundry, yup. Also, Gyro is probably responsible for coming up with the modern laundry machines (that was just ingenious)

Everybody tells me how awesome Jojo is, I started, and got way turned off by the Nazis :(
Sorry, I can't stomach positively portrayed Nazis in my happy adventures.

Well, I never saw them as positive. They just happen to be there as a surprise supporter, but I never got the impression that Araki tried to show them in a positive light. Joseph makes fun of them all the time and is reluctant to get help from Stroheim.

Also, you're really, REALLY missing out if you just stop now D: "Battle Tendency" is an awesome arc. You should definitely read the other parts though, there are no Nazis to be found there.

Yeah I hadn't read Battle Tendency and only watched it on the anime. I must say I was surprised they were trying to show a good side of a nazi but, then again, this is JJBA: it always sheds a different light on things.

Part 5 is awesome, omg. ALSO PART 7 WILL STEAL YOUR HEART.

I read most of it on Manga Reader http://www.mangareader.net/ I think it has most parts (I know there was only one I read on another site.) Of course the older scans don't have such great quality but they're the only ones available I guess.

Also, they sometimes mess up with the chapter order so it can get confusing at times and you end up having to search for them. Boy is that annoying when it happens. It happens mostly on part 3, though. I know I ended up downloading that one in torrents.

Parts 5+ look good there I think.

So you wish there were more fic for a series you enjoy, but this is a secret why?

You know, I totally failed there. Only after submitting it did I realize it didn't look like a secret. Oops.

Hey, it's an active fandom but it's more on the fan art/cosplay side of active. I can actually see the appeal of cosplay with Jojo because dem outfit.

I feel bad I stopped writing. I need to go back because it was my first time dipping my toes into Gen. Even if it was in drabbles.

Yeah I guess so. And yeah the outfits are amazing. Such a fabulous series really.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure sounds like my relationship with my sister (Josephine, nicknamed JoJo) as I introduce her to fandom-y things.

I really do want to write for this fandom but it's rough; I either have huge epic ideas I know I could never finish (there's been a part 5.5 floating in my head ever since I finished Vento Aureo) or, uh, weird crossdressing Joseph porn that I'd never finish (because good god Tequila Joseph you could be so fascinating). Sigh.
