What's your temper like?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-09 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you quick to fly off the handle, or does it take a lot to get you angry?

Re: What's your temper like?

It usually takes a lot to make me angry, but there are some things that make me RAAAGE within seconds.

I am patient as fuck. I am one of six children and many nieces/nephews. I have gotten a lot of practice being patient.

Usually slow. Especially if I'm with other people with shorter fuses, I find myself unintentionally trying to balance them out. But there are a few topics that can rile me quicker.

I'm patient. Reaaaally patient. It takes a lot to rile me up but when I am, I take no prisoners. It doesn't last long though, and I only use words.

It depends. Sometimes, I just chalk it up to someone's ineptitude, but other times I go from 0 to 75 in about ten minutes.

I'm very patient with children, the elderly, and the sick, but I have a very short temper with anyone else. Dunno why it works that way.

Unless somebody's words/actions hurt me badly, it is almost impossible to make me angry. I just cannot be bothered.

Re: What's your temper like?

It doesn't take much to make me angry, but it takes mountains of continual rage before I actually lose my temper. I've only lost my temper once in my life; mostly, I can just smile through it.

I'm a pretty positive, patient person. (wow alliteration)

However, I'm fairly stubborn about things I really care about, and there are a couple of things that will make me rage. But that usually doesn't happen, and I tend to hold back unless I'm close with the person.

It's sort of an upwards curve. I'm very quick to tell someone "fuck off" but it takes something an order of magnitude more aggravating to graduate that to "kill yourself and fuck the body." And the only people who make me angry enough to stomp, rage, scream, and throw shit are my parents.

starphotographs: I like him. He kind of looks and acts like one of my characters. (I did not know this when I started liking him!) (Victor (...>:|))

I'm generally laid-back/oblivious until I'm overtired or have forgotten to eat for 19 hours, which is when I fly off the handle at something really stupid, while not realizing that I'd feel a lot better if I sat down for a while and/or ate something.

Oh, and I have really high/unusual standards for personal space and have a low threshold for unwanted or sudden interaction with strangers. But that looks less like anger and more like me staring in to space like a lump, silently wishing this person would go away.

I almost never lose my temper.

Unfortunately, on the few occasions I do, I tend to go ballistic.

Can't stand people with short fuses though, losing your temper in the workplace is just the most childish shit.

I have a very bad temper. I also have a tendency to keep my emotions bottled up for a long time until I can't keep them in anymore, and then I erupt like a superpowered rage-volcano.

My temper is pretty quick (my family always makes fun of me for it). I fly off the handle really fast, but it's usually a very fleeting anger. It takes a lot to make me hold grudges or get deeply and bitterly angry.

I like to think I'm not too temperamental, but some things (even small ones) can irritate me or anger me pretty quickly. My anger doesn't normally last though and the only times I've ever 'lost it' were when I was much younger and not quite as well mannered.

Re: What's your temper like?

It really depends. I try my best to be chill and relaxed, but I do have a few hair-trigger topics that just set me off like nothing else.

I can also get ridiculously childish and grumpy, which ends up with me lashing out. I had therapy for anger management for a little while, which was originally exacerbated by my depression, but I just found out recently that apparently adult ADHD can manifest itself in a quick temper. I sort of want to go back in time and slap both the therapists who refused to fucking diagnose me >:| Would've made my life a little easier... (Now I'm stuck trying to deal with it on my own because yay, lack of health insurance!)

I've been told I have anger problems though I don't know how much stock to put in that because the person who told me that is the very definition of a jackass.

But I do realize I can get very angry at people. Normally, I try to always question my anger to see if it's legitimate. If my anger looks stupid to me then surely it looks ridiculous to outsiders. That helps me calm down and not get so angry in the first place. However, when I do get unquestionably angry I don't like that part of me so I try something else. I always feel, for me, it's not about my anger but how I react. I refuse to give into my anger for the most part. I will be patient. I have to be. It's really important to me to treat people well, even if I'm seething mad, because I don't see that as an excuse. Being angry isn't an excuse to treat people poorly or to not be patient.

I have blown up but it's rare and normally when I do it's because of something I've been trying to work on or fix over a long period of time. For example, the last thing I blew up about was to my mother and how she treated a certain aspect of my life, and made me feel invalidated. This was something I had been working on since about the seventh grade. So, many, many years is how long that took to boil over. And for anyone who cares, we did fix it. I apologized for my very unseemly outburst too because I was ashamed by how I acted. My mother and I then talked a long time about everything. So at least that won't happen again.

So, to answer your question, I am an angry person who refuses to not be patient so it takes a lot for me to show it.

I am pretty patient and laid back, though I am easily annoyed, but just as easily unannoyed.

If I do get angry, I get really angry and then I rage for a little while, go away and come back 10 minutes later unangry.

I like putting un in front of words... I can't be arsed to figure out how to rephrase that right now

I have a really short fuse. Most of the time it just leads to some cussing or extreme sarcasm, but sometimes it'll flip to insta-rage so fast I literally feel dizzy. I keep Valium on hand for those occasions.

...I'm pretty sure my brain chemistry is genuinely malfunctional.

I think I've properly lost my temper twice in my adult life. It's not a feeling I like at all.

I mean, I get annoyed or narked by things. But never to the extent that I can't see the other person's perspective and either laugh it or shrug it off. Except for those two times.

There's a certain word about a time when I was completely depressed that if anyone shrieks it at me (and that happens a lot), I get furious. Other times I try really hard to keep it in check.

Offline, I have a bad habit of basically smiling and smiling and smiling until the cracking point, which is, fortunately, far enough away that only immediate family members have ever seen it. Same applies for legit tears-and-snot crying, too. On some level I feel like getting angry is Somehow Worse than whatever I could be angry about, so it pretty much has to get to the point where Whatever I Am Angry About is SO BAD that it breaks through that whole "don't you dare express anger, anger is the worst thing ever" deal.

The barrier is lower when the Shit To Be Mad About is done to someone else, though. There have been a few times where people got used to me being a doormat and then tried the same shit on mutual friends and suddenly SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER THE DOORMAT HAS TEETH.

Some savvy assholes have been able to use all this to their advantage. So it's not a 100% good thing. At all.
