I really don't see how this could even be possible since apparently(and I admit I haven't read the comics.) Azula knows, and would do everything in her power to use it and become Fire Lord, but according to LoK Zuko apparently remained Fire Lord until he retired.

If it's not a red herring, it's the most epic plot fail ever though.

Yeeeeeeeah... that "reveal" was pretty much the worst. I'm really hoping that it's a fake-out. I hope that it goes "Marmalade Boy" on us. No, seriously, I want them to go the whole "I read your old high school letters and now I know the truth!" route just like in Marmalade Boy, and then for Ozai to haul off and slap Zuko across the face for being an idiot.

It just annoys me that Zuko hasn't learned not to believe Azula's bullshit at this point. I thought that in the series he had grows as a person to make his own decisions. But nope back to trusting his family again.

Honestly, I had been expecting this secret since the comic came out. I don't care for the twist myself, but I think it's just a fake. The second part comes out in less than a month; maybe we'll get answers (and hopefully less questions) then.

Spoiler Alert: ZUKO LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE OZAI.

There is no way in hell he's not Ozai's son.

ESPECIALLY after that big deal Iroh made about Zuko's bloodline melding those of Roku and Sozin.

This is either a fakeout, or Zuko and Azula have an older half-brother somewhere.

Or the baby died.

If people can ignore other canon details in many, many other fandoms, I don't see why you can't. Also, it is a pretty stupid and cheap move so choose to think of it as his mom being more wishful but, nope, totally her husband's baby. Or mom went a little nutty if she lost the baby that was hers and her lover's.

If it's not in the original source material it doesn't count to me >:{ Because I'm not going to read the comics (no interest), that part of the Avatar world/time/history has been wrapped up and ...basically it's like little stories but I don't really consider them canon since not as much of the fanbase will be aware of it?

Because I had the same thought. In fact I was seriously considering a secret that would go exactly like this.

This BETTER be a fucking fakeout or I'm just going to have to mentally disown the comics from canon to keep from being irrationally pissed.

I think there was a secret like this before.

but it doesn't change who Zuko is. He was still RAISED by Ozai and his mother and was influenced by them both and he STILL went through hell before he became who is now.

Zuko is still Zuko. Reveal or no.

Calling it now: red herring. Azula knows this and is only using the vague wording of this letter, knowing fully well that Zuko will find it, to sew doubt in his mind and potentially make it easier to usurp him.

In both English and the traditional Chinese script in which the letter is written, "our" doesn't have a definite meaning. It could mean "Ozai and I" or "you and I." Given everything that Zuko's been through, it doesn't take much to make him doubt himself. In due time, once Azula stops trying to sabotage Zuko, I'm sure she'll admit that it was nothing more than something she concocted (or possibly mistakenly believed).

As for the people suggesting this makes Ursa an adultress, you obviously haven't read the comic. Ursa was in love with this dude before Ozai came and got her. Once that happened, she never saw him again, and thus, never would have had an opportunity to shack up with this guy, who is shown to have pretty much disappeared from society after losing Ursa.
