This is an awesome coping mechanism, except for the pick-pocketing part. I don't think immediate reverse pick-pocketing absolves you morally. And it wouldn't legally if you were ever caught.

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I wouldn't pick-pocket strangers. I just used the word to concisely say 'Sometimes I take my brother's keys out of his pocket while he's walking to see if he notices'.

Re: OP

I do the same thing for the same reasons. It's always disappointing, though, because nobody notices. :/

I can relate with the "people just start ignoring me 5 words in" thing -- drives me fucking nuts to be trying to hold a conversation and they immediately start talking to someone else.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The last time that happened I tied everyone's bag to the table.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Is there any more to that story? Because that sounds hilarious.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Not that much more. I was doing a group project where I was one of the better ones at that particular subject yet they ignored me. It was supposed to be about the history of a boat but the only information that ended up on the powerpoint was how that boats toilets worked. So after they told me to just look up some pictures I tied there bag to the table. And looked up pictures because I'm a wuss.

I so hate that feeling. I've been sitting across from someone looking them right in the eye and telling them the information they're looking for multiple times, and they're still sitting there saying "I wonder if anyone knows this? Gee, who can we ask?" I'm not familiar with Discworld but I like your coping mechanism.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe instead of trying to just deal with it, you try to get help so that you'll be able to interact with people without them ignoring you.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you "get help" for other people not paying attention to you?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on why anon is being ignored. Is she not assertive enough? Are her social skills weak? Is she bad at reading other people's body language? Is she hanging out with people that she has nothing in common with?

There was this one girl who sometimes sat with me and my friends in high school and we often ignored her. Why? Because she generally didn't join in the conversation. And she didn't talk much about herself, so we didn't know what she was interested in. At some point we just gave up on talking her, wondering why she even sat with us in the first place.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
She may really have not known how to join a conversation, and was trying to be social even if that only showed through her being there.

A social skills class in middle school or something would have been awesome :/

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I wasn't actually aware that you could get help for being ignored. It seems more like it has something to do with other people than yourself. Maybe I'll look into that.

Although I will say that I do have communication problems since I'm not fluent in the language of my current country of residence. Maybe you've got something going on there.

I used to reverse-pick pocket. Or fitting some scrote up good and proper as my old Sarge used to call it.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry OP, zoned out for a sec- were you saying something?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
keep working on your pickpocketing and stealth skills and eventually a group of conmen looking to pull a heist will take notice!

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
This is quite amazing. I'm a big introvert but I often pretend to be other characters around other people so I can interact with them, have you tried that OP?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-12 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You might make a good spy then.

When I think of reverse pickpocketing, I always think of leaving things in people's pockets that they don't expect. Glitter is fun, but hard to get away with because it clings to your fingers.

Use the kind of loose glitter that comes in tubes and pour out a bit into the pocket? Having that happen to me would certainly make my day. Glitter is awesome.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-13 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
DA

See, my thing is I wouldn't really *want* to make someone's day because they ignored me.

Bags of cocaine are more fun, then you tell the cops that you think you've seen him dealing...

(Anonymous) 2013-06-13 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Glitter is a pain to clean, though! D:

My goodness is it pretty but... yeah.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-13 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'd hate whoever did this to me. Glitter is awful because it clings everywhere.
