1 - How did you even understand the movie? It's not one that just anyone can enjoy, it makes no sense unless you know the backstory. I mean it's damn pretty, but storywise D:

14 - I did the exact same thing. There's only so many times you can write the same old and just put aside what it is that you want to really write. My old name (by fic standards) is pretty dead now, but hell, am I having fun with the new stuff!

I can understand your frustration (I have an autistic sister myself) about people being really stupid about something like a disorder. I think that, with canon backing and if done well, it can work.

But it is reaaaaallly annoying when people go "LOL maybe I'm this-and-that, too!" It's just... no. STFU.

To me it depends on how it's done. Some characters, like you said, really do have mental disorders/really are written to seem like they do/whatever. (Especially PTSD, considering how many fictional characters have dramatic angst in their past, heh.) So there's nothing wrong with pointing that out. And when I see characters getting bashed for acting as if they have a mental disorder ("omg, Character X whines soooo much, and he's such a DICK to people trying to help him! He was only seven when his parents died horribly, he should be over it by now!"), I do tend to get pissy and start talking about how they match up with said disorder and therefore it makes sense for them to act that way.

It does bother me the way mental disorders are treated as "trendy" in fandom. I avoid talking about my own experience with them for this reason: I don't want to be perceived as simply someone jumping on the bandwagon all "LOL hay gize I've got (insert syndrome here) because I read a list of symptoms on the internet!!"

But conditions like those on the autistic spectrum are a part of the variety of the human mind, and therefore so long as you're not just appropriating the concept to make yourself or your favorite character seem cool or special, I don't really see why it's not something that should be discussed.

Your post is made of win. I was going to elaborate on it and stuff, but you pretty much pwned the topic.

I avoid talking about my own experience with them for this reason:
I kind of admire you in that way, I guess. I always try not to be all like: "Oh, lolz. I'm bi-polar. Check me out, I'm a crazy person. Look at my bi-polar dance!" *shakes Lithium bottle* but I just can't stop. It's such a part of who I am and I'm not actually ashamed of it or anything. :P

It's just irritating having that nagging voice in the back of your head telling you that your words and experiences are automatically devalued and held suspect through no fault of your own. Mental Illness in young people (under 25) is something I wish people would talk about more. I mean, actually talk about, rather than all the self diagnosis that teens do and pill-chucking doctors do.

9. I really don't know about this one. Does it anger me when I see serious stuff badly written? Sure. My hot buttons at the moment are cancer or someone grieving, but still, it doesn't mean that people can't write them. And why shouldn't someone use them to get a better understanding of the character, or depth?

2. I don't think so. I was a big fan of the game .. the year it came out. I was only nine, granted, but I watched my brother play, which was also exciting, and then proceeded to play it myself like ... three times through. A lot of my love of the game is due to nostalgia because of that. What you find first if often what you love most, which I think is a part of it too. otherwise, uh, you're entitled to like what you like. =/ doesn't make you any less of a fan. at least you DID play the game, yes?

tl;dr conclusion is: YOU ARE NOT LAME, ROCK ON.

This kind of pisses me off too but more because they ALWAYS really mean Aspergers. Which is in itself still kind of silly because a whole HELL of a lot of people have Aspie-like traits without actually being Aspie. Solitary, has problems with social interaction, sensitive to loud or repetitive noises? Sounds like plain old INTROVERSION to me! You've only got Aspergers if you can't cope with other people without medicine.

But yeah. There's a lot of Aspergers in my family so I kind of want to punch out all the people that mistake it for Autism. Not cool, learn your terms if you're gonna diagnose someone.

9. Good God, I so agree. I could never put my finger on why it annoys me so much, but the way people say it just seems so flippant, as if a disorder somehow makes the character cooler.
