Re: Misandry... Oh dear.

I don't know. It's sort of like how white people can't claim racism, because they're in the majority, power wise. Men are in that same space, so I don't think it can be put o the same level as misogyny.

Re: Misandry... Oh dear.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-17 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Misogyny is a much bigger, society wide, issue and Misandry is a far more interpersonal issue, but to the harm to each individual person is still real, isn't it? If society is shitting on you or the people around you are shitting on you, either way you're covered in shit, right?

Re: Misandry... Oh dear.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-17 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Society isn't shitting on men like it is on women, based solely on their gender, though

Re: Misandry... Oh dear.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-17 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Not as a whole, no, not yet.

Re: Misandry... Oh dear.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-17 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
When men start making less than women based on their gender, are having law upon law passed to limit their sexuality, have a harder time at getting Viagra than getting BC, are treated like slut for having sex instead of 'studs', are told they shouldn't join the army because they cause ~distractions~ to female soldiers, and are not allowed to go topless anywhere because their bodies are too ~sexy~, then I might agree. Until then, no.

Re: Misandry... Oh dear.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-18 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Except some of this is already happening, like the salary issue. And I don't know where you're from but there has never been a time in my life when women were told not to join the military in America. There WAS a time when some branch-specific colleges did not allow women but that changed 20 years ago. And that wasn't the Army, who has allowed women into West Point since 1976. As for going topless, that's allowed for women everywhere in the US where it's allowed for men.

Re: Misandry... Oh dear.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-18 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Women in the military also have a higher clothing allowance than the men.

Well, with respect to the military: yes, women are discouraged from joining in the U.S., and that's happening right now.

If you want a more tangible milemarker for that, though, it wasn't until 2010 that women were allowed to serve on submarines. So...it's there.

Re: Misandry... Oh dear.

No. Women in the USA are still not paid the same salary for the same job as men.

"In the United States, the median income for women is roughly 77% of the median income for men.[14] Economists expect that in a free market, managers would prefer to hire less costly women workers, forcing men to compete with women on wages and balancing out the wage disparity.[15]
Several studies of women in the legal profession reveal persistent gaps in partnership numbers at major American Law Firms. Despite the fact that women have graduated from law schools in equal numbers for over twenty years, only 16-19% of law firm partners are women.[16] [17] Likewise, only 51% of women polled were satisfied with their compensation, compared to 71% of men.[18]" from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal_pay_for_women

I strongly suggest you eduate yourself and go read through the references listed at the bottom of the wiki.

Also, "When the Equal Pay Act was signed into law by President Kennedy in 1963, women were earning an average of 59 cents on the dollar compared to men. While women hold nearly half of today's jobs, and their earnings account for a significant portion of the household income that sustains the financial well-being of their families, they are still experiencing a gap in pay compared to men's wages for similar work. Today, women earn about 81 cents on the dollar compared to men — a gap that results in hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost wages. For African-American women and Latinas, the pay gap is even greater.
Each year, National Equal Pay Day reflects how far into the current year women must work to match what men earned in the previous year. On National Equal Pay Day, we rededicate ourselves to carrying forward the fight for true economic equality for all.
For more on Equal Pay, including tools, resources and recently announced Apps, see below:" from: http://www.dol.gov/equalpay/

And that's from the freaking Dept of Labor govt website.

Take a good, long look at the male next to you doing the same job as you and realize you're getting paid less than him simply b/c he has a dick.

I do agree with you, but this might tickle you, I'm a woman and I own a small business, 3 women and 2 men work for me. I wonder if you can guess how the wages are worked out? You're welcome!

Re: Misandry... Oh dear.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-18 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
You should pay your employees based on their position and abilities, not on their sexual organs.

You mean you pay the women more than the men? That's not cool. Most businesses pay men and women equally. The corruption is at and applies to the top levels of SOME businesses and it's fucking wrong, as is what you're doing.

Oh really?

There is also: Rape and Domestic violence being a "female as victim only" crime, child custody and alimony, the fact men account for 92% of work related deaths. There are many more, but i have to go eat dinner.

As opposed to: Legitimate rape, forced transvaginal ultrasounds, rampant rape in the military, non-equal pay, iffy marital rape laws, the constant assault on BC, etc

Re: Misandry... Oh dear.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-18 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm assuming by "legitimate rape" you are referring to a handful or politicians who have made retarded comments. I'm sure we can pull out just as many made about men. Most women say the ultrasound made them feel better about their decision. Were they to remain pregnant they'd have to deal with worse. These problems stem from religion and religiosity is steadily on the decline in western countries.

But you know what? The rest of the issues plus the issues facing men are things we can all fight at the same time. Devoting some attention to male issues shouldn't be considered taking away from women when it helps everyone in the end.

Re: Misandry... Oh dear.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-18 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
We have to remember what is important, tho. protecting all women from the idiot males is a much more important job than comforting a handful of men against one or two women who have had bad experiences with men and are taking that out on the men around them. Why are we even arguing this?

People can be racist against white people. That power definition is such a load of shit.

Racism: 1) The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race
2)Prejudice or discrimination directed against someone of a different race based on such a belief.

Boy bullied for being white who committed suicide. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4809890/BOY-thought-to-be-one-of-Britains-youngest-suicides-found-dead-after-months-of-jibes-says-family.html

It's not a load of shit it's just specifically talking abotu institutionalized racism vs dictionary racism. It's a real thing.

Re: Misandry... Oh dear.

They're different terms with different definitions and understanding that matters when discussing the topic. Anon said "that power definition is a load of shit" - I was explaining that it was not.

And people on the internet have a bad habit of not clarifying which definition of racism they're using, and God forbid you use the dictionary definition when they're using the institutional definition.
