Secondly, you need to talk to the person. Tell them that while you're flattered that they think your character and his/her abilities is worthwhile enough to copy, it's getting a bit old and it means that there's not enough variety in the group. So they need to stop it now and think up their own characters. Offer your assistance to help them create their own unique character. And if they continue, tell them flat out to stop. Preferably in front of the rest of your group and your DM so they cotton on to what is happening.
And if all else fails, a character duel to the death is in order.
OP
(Anonymous) 2013-07-03 02:29 am (UTC)(link)The problem is I technically came into the group later where this friend was there at the very beginning (therefore I feel I have less rights in controlling the game), he is good friends with the DM, and the DM in general likes to give us pretty strong control over our own characters.
There have already been about 3 sessions since I submitted this secret and I have not played in any of them, so I guess it's over :(
You are right though, I wish the DM would have put his foot down. But he won't.
Re: OP
Can you change your character at all? Maybe to the one the other guy started using first? Turn about is fair play, after all ;)

You could always find a new group and take your original character to them (with DM approval of course).
Personally I'd be inclined to go in with a new character and be obnoxiously obvious about why you're changing it, to the point of discomfort, and lots of pointed "maybe THIS time my concept won't be stolen" type of hints. But then I'm very passive aggressive like that, lol.
Good luck whichever way you go, anon!
Re: OP
There was a guy my friend was dating who was kind of a creep. When we started playing White Wolf games, I made a nice, pleasant, charismatic-but-annoying Trickster, and decided that his character would be my "special friend." Think of that in terms of Animaniacs--what the Warners would do to their friend of the week. It drove him up the wall, sitting behind his character on the bus and playing the ukulele, using my charisma stats to get his character to buy coffee for me, and just generally being cheerful and aggravating...but it was all totally in character.
Just saying. That's a nice, cathartic way to deal with rude people.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-04 12:17 am (UTC)(link)In game his character wasn't any worse than the rest of ours. The guy was just a jerk.
(The coffee scene was epic--I had all these diplomacy and persuasion stats, but he had all these antisocial and stubbornness-type traits, and we just kept building and building, and it all ended up in this epic dice role until his character literally *had* to buy mine coffee. It served no story purpose whatsoever, but it was far too much fun.)
