There was reasonable doubt. That's why the police didn't want to jump to charge him They knew he'd get off and that would be a waste of their resources.

No, the police didn't want to charge him because they were (broadly) influenced by racist. It happens that coincidentally, also, there wasn't enough evidence, he'd get off, and it was a waste of their time, but that's not why they did it. The initial investigation was a joke.

The initial investigation pointed to Zimmerman telling the truth. So did the subsequent investigation, the one that was brought about by people screaming racism. And the accusations of racism are also why he was charged for something they couldn't convict on.

The most amazing thing about all of this is that Zimmerman is the racial minority in that town, not Trayvon Martin. But people outside of the area who have been looking at the whitewashed pictures of Zimmerman in the media don't care to acknowledge that he's Hispanic or that there could ever be an instance of an African American not being the racial minority somewhere.

The truth being he went hunting someone for no reason other than his own self-appointed vigilante jollies, and then when the victim stood his ground against his attacker he killed them. Zimmerman is a murderer no matter what the racist court system says. You can bet if it had been a white boy killed by the half-caste latino then he'd be in jail right now. He managed to murder someone lower down on the racial scale, so its all good, hunting the most dangerous game is still okay in Florida as long as they are black.

My brain shorted out from shock that someone supposedly decrying racism managed to fit so many racist things into four sentences. It really shouldn't surprise me that there are people as disgusting as you in the world, but I guess I'm just too much of an optimist. I at least hope you recognize that you're a vile racist because the alternative is too sad for me to think about right now.

In the court, you have to make rulings set on actual facts, and not emotion. The facts are that the state could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Zimmerman didn't kill in self-defense. Thus the jury decided on 'not guilty'. You can fling around 'white on black crime! Ohmergerd Racism errrrmerrrgerddd", but that doesn't change the fact that Zimmerman is Hispanic. He even looks Hispanic. To say the cops didn't want to charge him because he was a 'lolwhitey' is laughable. It just shows that your emotions have tainted your rational thought.

And I also like how you ignore that it was Trayvon that attacked first. Zimmerman just asked him a question. Last I knew, jumping someone for asking you a question is a huge over-reaction.

Which is exactly the reason they should have charged him with manslaughter. There wasn't enough evidence to convict for murder 2. The jury had no choice but to determine guilty or not guilty of murder 2; they can't come back and say "Well, he's guilty of this thing you didn't charge him with instead." The prosecutor is the one who fucked this all up and actually knew it at the time, but it was easier to go with the higher charge knowing he'd skate and put the blame on the jury instead of looking soft by going with the charge they could actually convict on.

Except it sounds like the jury had the option to find him guilty of manslaughter? I really wish they'd done that.

No. Manslaughter in Florida requires the killing have no legal reason. Self defense is a legal reason, and the prosecution could not prove that he was not acting in self defense. If you have reasonable doubt, you have to find not guilty. That's only fair. If you're angry about that, you have to change the law itself, not go after the guy who got away with pitchforks.

Florida, where it is still okay to hunt down black men. If you support this verdict, then you are a damn racist.

Or, you know, you understand Florida law. We can't just find someone guilty because we think they're terrible. That's why we have laws and not stonings.

Just remember that not guilty doesn't mean innocent.
