I feel like most of the fans of this game series fall into the latter category (at least the ones that I've known, myself included). Perhaps your friends are like that too, but are simply nervous to be the first one to admit it?

It's possible. Maybe they can really admit it in real life, and they have accounts in here and freak out about it in secret like I do.

Maybe it's mostly girls in this case? I mean, going all for BBKaz because, well, OBVIOUS THERE.

BUT, I must be giving them credit for admitting that Ocelot is absolutely completely gay for BB and that's ok. Well, they would have been in denial if they hadn't.

Hey, liking gameplay and thinking characters are fine is not mutually exclusive. For me, that's basically all of Dragon age.

Are you sure they would laugh? Maybe you're wrong! I feel like most Metal Gear fans wouldn't mind your excitement over any of these things (expect maybe the slash bits; there are still some fans who hilariously don't want to admit the series is as gay as it is), and even if they didn't understand them wouldn't honestly judge you for them.

And if they would: meh. It's totally okay to like these things! I'm super excited for the storyline and the gameplay and the never-ending cutscenes but I also can't wait for all the delicious angst and riding around on horses and everyone being stylish motherfuckers (unf Kaz's glasses and the jacket and Boss's eye-patch and Ocelot's scarf) and the enormous slash potential between Boss and Kaz. If you've looked into the Metal Gear fandom online you'll see that you're definitely not alone in these feelings.

They are SO stylish, my gosh. Kaz's glasses and hat and uniform are still the best IMO, but Ocelot is so cool too, and I swear, that ponytail on BB is making me a bit too excited.

And the angssst. There's angst everywhere, even the horses have angst, I can see that. :D

I'm probably also lonely because I can't find anyone anywhere to talk about it. I tried for a bit in here and on lj and tumblr, but there's not much collective involvement. Like, I don't know, communities or groups.

Kaz is honestly one of the more stylish/cool Metal Gear characters. And since this is Metal Gear that's a big damn compliment!

Shh, let's not give the horses angst already. Now I'm thinking of the horses dying and getting sad. :( (It'll probably happen, too...)

LJ isn't the best place to talk about anything anymore tbh. It's pretty empty these days. Tumblr is definitely busier and an easier way to find out what the fanbase is thinking, but as you probably already know, it isn't an ideal forum for communication. Some people manage to make friends and hold conversations with it, but I don't really see how.

Come to GC sometimes! I THINK you already have, but there have been some MG conversations over there too. If you feel like making one go ahead; depending on the day there might not be much of a response, but I know at least a couple people (Er, including myself) that would be interested and happy to chat with you!

If they're MGS fans, would they really give that much of a shit? That series is full of gay and bi and pandering to a gay/straight female audience. They probably wouldn't even be the least bit surprised.

It's quite obvious to me too. But you know, I noticed men will go lengths not to accept that some scenes are real canon, or stuff like that. I remember the date with Kaz, there was half population going 'omg they are so gay', and another half going, 'that's not canon, it doesn't count'. Which, I think it's stupid because EVEN IF that wasn't canon (I think it is because it happens in game, but I don't really need to make a point of that), THAT scene means that the writers are THINKING about it when they create the game. To THEM it is part of the characters anyway. Their brain and hands went THERE actively. So, you know, why bother denying and demonstrating the opposite?

OP!! I'm very much in your same state of mind. Kind of desperate about the new game already. :D

As an individual player (who doesn't even own a ps3 at the moment), I'm pretty much stuck into my own head about these things most of the time. Only this time I can already foresee this new game will eat my brain for breakfast, and I know I'll need to vent or I'll explode...

Don't know if it might be relevant, I tried, some days ago, to start up a new comm for the new game, with a friending meme, but it didn't exactly take off. Well, I tried! It's both in here on DW (but I didn't find any MGS comms to post it on) and on lj, but maybe I didn't advertise it too much? Oh well, maybe it was too soon. :)

Maybe you didn't advertise enough, yea. If you link to it on tumblr under the Metal Gear tags then you might get some new members, but a lot of LJ and dreamwidth comms aren't as popular as they used to be either, so don't take it personally if it doesn't get much of a response. Fandom has moved. :(
