I know it's a good show and all... But I don't understand how everyone manages to look past the creepy fanservicey Opening. She's like twelve.

The slide the OP has picked on lasts for less than a second in amongst some cartoon-y humorous mishaps. There is a creepier fanservicey section later in the opening sequence where two pre-teen girls are all glowing white, but appears to only last for a three seconds.

Because Opening =/= show, mainly. I almost always skip the openings of the anime I watch, because they really don't matter at all. The actual show has, like, zero fanservice.

Because that slide is there for about half a second and it's got nothing to do with the show itself, nor does it show up anywhere else. You'd have to actually be going frame-by-frame to really notice it.

I assume it's since the opening (along with the first ending) is the troll-tastic cherry on top of the whole "we're going to spend the first three episodes luring you into a sense of false security thinking this is your average, innocent moe-blob magical girl anime heh heh heh" cake.

And so people appreciate it for what it is: a serious-faced full-out parody on what the series subverts.

Exactly this. The opening is, in my opinion, very skillfully and very intentionally crafted for the purpose of disguising the show's true intent. It wears a mask to make the sudden change in tone unexpected, and thus all the more powerful.

I always assumed Sayaka and Mami were having Madoka try on different magical girl-esque outfits in the opening, to see what she'd look best in.
It was played for laughs, because there are a lot of impractical, sexualized outfits in anime. So it looked completely ridiculous on Madoka. That was the point. That was the joke.

I seriously doubt anyone making those art decisions were licking their lips, going "Mmmmyes, this is totally hot. Men will be all over this. I'm sure of it."

She's fourteen, but lol actually I had completely forgotten about that shot. It's there for like half a second. That being said it's not drawn sexily at all. It just looks like it's intended to be a random quick gag shot. If anything I thought it was poking fun at the sexualization of magical girls that happens in the genre.

Trust me if it was intended to be fanservice, it would have been drawn in a COMPLETELY different manner.

...Anyway I think there's a huge difference between 14 and 12 as far as how creepy it is to sexualize cartoons of them? It may be only two years but your brain changes a LOT in those two years. Of course it's still creepy, just... considerably less so, IMO.

Because the OP is a fucking parody of most magical girl shows. We aren't supposed to be fapping to that scene, which is on screen for like 2 seconds.
