(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)With that said, I'm with electromouse. I had painful heavy, unpredictable periods for a long time, and there turned out to be A Problem. A solvable one, but still A Problem.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)Maybe you could get on birth control; it will make your period very predictable and regular so you can plan ahead and not wake up covered in blood?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)Before I was on meds and my period came like 5 times a year so I never knew when, it started light enough that I'd just need to change my underwear.

spoilers for The Godfather and warning for gore and animal abuse
warning for gore and animal abuse
[Picture is an older man with white hair and tanned skin sitting up in his very expensive looking bed, screaming, wearing golden silky pajamas and covered in blood. He is staring at a severed brown horse head at the feet of his bed, the source of the blood.]
It scares me how much this scene reminds me of my period. That's exactly how I act when it happens, screaming in a bed covered in blood. Only there's no horse. I can barely watch the movie because it reminds me of the horrible, painful week I endure every month that always starts out like this, only more unexpected.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 04:32 am (UTC)(link)1- The OP is not a food, don't refer to her as such without her permission
2- Not everyone has the luxury of seeing a doctor. You have no idea where OP lives or if medical care is even an option for her.
3- Why do you assume that your cutely worded suggestion is necessary? She almost certainly has thought of seeking care if she really is losing blood at such an alarming rate. She doesn't need you to point out to her what is obvious. This would of course be different if she were doing something demonstrably stupid (using a soapdish as a handle?) but why do you assume, without any evidence, that OP needs your paternalistic and patronizing suggestions?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 05:04 am (UTC)(link)"Honey" isn't always a dismissive address. In the South, it's often used to express gentle concern.
A lot of women don't always think of seeing a doctor, or more likely, think of seeing a doctor, but then convince themselves that the problem they have is so small that they'd feel stupid to go to one. Or that it seems embarrassing, or is probably normal and nothing can be done about it. And sometimes having another person go, "y'know, it does sound like you should see a doctor" is enough to make them feel okay about making that appointment and then I got to the word paternalistic and realized you were a troll, so, whups, but I've typed all this out now, so...yeah.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 06:42 am (UTC)(link)2. it's still condescending, even in the south. moreso in the south.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 12:19 am (UTC)(link)I had borderline PCOS, and I must've bled half a litre or more per period, it was outta control and debilitating, no work for me. I remember standing in the ocean and watching the blood flow away on the tide. I did some lifestyle changes that helped such as cutting down on stress and sugar, and started taking chaste tree supplements, but hey, I realise everyone's body is different so this probably doesn't help you.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 02:29 am (UTC)(link)Seeing a doctor would be a good idea, though.
