Dammit, I knew there was something I forgot to mention in my wall of text.

I am well aware that the first part is just a difference of opinion; however, I've seen it so much, that I had to get it off my chest.

The second part, though? Where people glorify the idea of Hannibal/Will and call Alana a bitch for not kissing Will? I think that goes further than simply "stop liking what I don't like." And it really bothers me. Obviously you disagree.

I'm with you, OP. This seems to be a problem in fandom in general, though. I will never understand why people take twisted relationships that are so multi-layered and fascinating because of how twisted they are, and reduce them to banal, boring, commonplace fluff. I don't get that at all.

Are there actually people who read/write fluffy Hannibal/Will fic but don't think it should be canon? Because reading the secrets apparently you're either a "serious" fan who only reads creepy stuff or a delusional shipper who reads fluff.

tbh Abigail's rejection of Will and the way their relationship was handled after that is why I came to love her as a character-- I didn't care much for her at first, but she is so three-dimensional and her feelings are handled really well. She definitely DOES want to be with Will because he's adorable and she wants to fix him, but she's smart enough to see that it wouldn't be good for them. I mean, GODDAMN. An actual adult relationship what the fuck

Is there really a preponderance of fluffy Will/Hannibal, though? Even the murder fam stuff has a fucked-up, decidedly bad-wrong ambiance — because, y'know, the clue's in the word MURDER.

Sure, there are plenty of fics in which Will 'succumbs'. I love them. I also love fics where Will slams Hannibal's creepy ass behind bars. Fic is a place to explore all the possibilities, un-possibilities and alternate universes of canon. Disclaimer: Just 'coz I read it, don't mean I condone it.

That said, please point me to the crazy stans demanding that Hannibal and Will frolic in the flowers and bake cupcakes together. I sure haven't seen any. And if they are out there, they've obviously a) been watching an entirely different show, or b) got serious problems comprehending basic narrative structure. The best thing is to just ignore them.

From what I've seen, the fans aren't demanding that, exactly. I've seen two different variations on it, but not necessarily together. 1. That TPTB need to make Hannibal/Will canon or it is already canon. And the two should kiss and all that. 2. In fic a lot people want to see fluffy stories. Not everyone, but enough people. But they don't expect it do be canon, I don't think? In fact, a lot of it is AU. (Although I don't understand how a story set in an AU verse where Hannibal is not a cannibalistic serial killer is really a Hannibal story, versus an OC story with someone of the same name and the same appearance.

I like the cutesy art of them. To me, it's totally silly and for the lol. I haven't read any of the fic for them, so I can't say anything on that matter.

I do think that there are some fans in Hannibal that don't understand that Hannibal is an evil motherfucker, who fucks with Will's head like he's an experiment Hannibal wants to see mutate and grow and possibly explode. I think the problem is that in the beginning of the show, Hannibal wasn't shown as evil as he is (besides the evil cannibalism), and his true actions of being a puppet master to Will.

I'd be up for some fucked up Hannigram fic.

I thought that was some pretty good audience manipulation tbh. Even people familiar with the book/movie canons, knowing how this is all going to turn out for Will Graham in the future, were still weirdly shocked when it was made especially obvious Hannibal was a super dick and lied about the encephalitis. Hannibal's people suit skills worked as far as duping a lot of viewers into thinking he cared about Will in any similar vein that Alana or Jack do.

I do not get why a certain subset of shippers thinks their ship is actually CANON!!! and then proceeds to look for the barest shreds of evidence to support their flimsy argument. And it then seems to lead to the fans asking the actors creepy questions at cons.

Both Bryan Fuller and Mads Mikkelsen have practically confirmed it's canon, at least on Hannibal's side.

If you ship Hannibal/Will in fanfic in the same twisted way it is shown on screen, I have no issue with it. I don't do it, because I'd like Will to be happy, but I can see it and understand it. If, however, you ship it in a light and fluffy story, or insist it should be canon, then I wonder if we are watching the same show, with the same characters. Hannibal is abusive, he gaslights Will, hides Will's illness, and force-feeds Will the ear of someone he cares for! And the "murder family" stories creep me out too. Will is devastated by even pretending to be a killer. In what universe would he enjoy killing with Hannibal? None.

Bonus Secret: And if you insist Hannibal/Will is or should be canon, but think Alana is a bitch for not kissing Will? I want you to get the fuck out of fandom, as I don't want to be associated with you.

The thing is that Hannibal does care--he just cares in the kind of horrifically-fucked-up way you would expect from a cannibal.

So less fluff, more willingness to butcher people who hurt his darling and a full menu planned in case his darling dies.
