Amen. I'm so sick of this. Could they have cast a more obviously Asian or mixed actor? Of course. But Keanu Reeves is not white, he isn't even white-passing. People need to stop calling him that.

I haveno dog in this fight, but I had no idea he wasn't white. So I'd say he was white passing.

What is he, just out of curiosity?

He's 1/4 Chinese, 1/4 Hawaiian, and 1/2 Caucasian (of IIRC English descent)

(I used to have a crush on him in high school 20 years ago, and it's funny what you still remember from fanmags.)

AFAIK his origins are very mixed and his father is part Chinese.

I always thought it was very obvious that he had Asian origins, both because of his eyes and because of his glossy black hair. I've never seen anyone who is 'completely' white with hair like that. The colour and the texture look very different from the kind of black hair you'd see on black-haired white people.

I used one of his old bios to work out the fractions myself. Keanu Reeves is 1/8th Hawaiian and has a "part-Chinese" grandmother. At most he's 1/4th Asian, depending on how you count the Hawaiian.

Same here. I never knew he wasn't white. And same for Jason Momoa until recently. Honestly I never thought about it. It's kind of ridiculous to categorize people so rigidly as white or black or Asian anyway nowdays as there are so many people of mixed heritage. Of the people I work with I'd say over 60% are in mixed relationships who have kids with an incredible variety of looks.

You though Jason Momoa was white...? How? Why?

I had the same reaction, but now that I think about it, it's not a hard mistake to make, considering the well-worn trend in Hollywood of lily-white actors playing "ethnic" roles with the help of a tan and some makeup.

It's complicated. Looks like 1/2 English, 1/8 Irish, 1/16 Portuguese, 1/16 Hawaiian, and the last 1/4 is a grandma "of part Chinese descent."

Huh, he's not white? I'd say he's white passing for quite a lot of people, and in Hollywood, that counts for something.

this x100. he's either white passing or flat-out considers himself a white man. either way, he is hardly the best option for the ronin film, and i'd be willing to bet he doesn't face much racism in hollywood because most consider him white...or at least "white enough".
