I miss watching the JDramas, too. There are so many good ones!

Some recs please? I'm in the mood to watch some recently but don't know what. Also is the HanaKimi remake any good?

You want older stuff or newer stuff? Drama or Comedy?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-11 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm up for trying anything as long as it has good script, cast, etc. Anyway I like both drama and comedy.

nayrt

Long Vacation has always been a classic, I recommend it to most people I know. I also enjoyed Tiger and Dragon, Stand Up!!, Kisarazu Cat's Eye, Maou, Akumu Chan, and for real quirkiness: Keizoku and Keizoku 2: SPEC.

i definitely agree with Akumu Chan. that was the j-drama that got me back into j-dramas.

Long Vacation was one of my first J-dramas and I loved it. I'm looking for more of those and I used to have a list somewhere but it's been a while since I've watched them.

I've seen a lot of manga adaptations - PGSM, Lovely Complex, Absolute Boyfriend (I haven't finished it) and I believe it was HanaKimi and Honey Clover, both which I need to finish.

I also enjoyed Best Friends (I believe that's the title?), Hotaru no Hikari (and its sequel) and I like dramas that are slice of life, cute and funny but I haven't had time to watch any lately. I'm always on the look out for more. =)

Also I just remembered I watched 'The reason I can't find my love' (Watashi ga Renai Dekinai Riyuu) and it's about four girls who are at different stages in their career and love lives and what they go through. I rather enjoyed it.

Seconding Watashi ga Renai Dekinai Riyuu. The portrayal of the characters' life problems was so relatable, it's really worth watching.

It's quite a social critique too, I even used the drama for my paper about Japanese women.

Thanks! Long Vacation sounds familiar... :)

Try Love Shuffle. Also, Kimura Takuya's Long Vacation and Pride are must watch classics for me.

Seconding Pride!

Koizora (Bring tissues), Hana kimi (hilariousness), Hana yori dango (pretty much my all time fav!).

While we're at it, I'll list some excellent Jdramas from other genres too. Because I think for these non-romance/comedy sections, I prefer Jdramas far more than Korean ones which tend to add dramatic romance plots to everything. Here goes:

Detective/police procedural: Shinzanmono, Strawberry Night, Galileo
Suspense/thriller: Maou, Bloody Monday
Medical: Jin <-- highly recommended
