(Anonymous) 2013-08-12 12:52 am (UTC)(link)Where do you live where "homosexual" is an acceptable descriptor for queers? No queer/glbtiq person. I know will touch it with a bargepole; it is only used by ignorant or bigoted straight people, or very old crusty gay men.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-12 12:56 am (UTC)(link)I think it depends on your area and your demographic, honestly. Here near Seattle, me and my under-20 friends use "gay" because "homosexual" sounds clinical and "queer" isn't something we ever hear being used.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-12 01:00 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, queer isn't universally used in my experience, gay is pretty common, though of course if you're bi or whatever it doesn't cover it, but I use gay a lot. Homosexual is clinical and like you have a condition. It's just used too much by bigots. I use "homo" sometimes in a jokey way, like "us filthy homos", but never to describe myself to strangers.
