I shouldn't have used what's going on in Russia right now with LGBT rights as a springboard to rerun my anti-sports rant. That was insensitive of me (and poorly thought out) and I've been feeling shitty about it, especially since I do care a lot about what's happening over there, as a journalist and someone with a vested interest in civil rights and social justice.

Consider this my formal apology.

Thank you for this. I am being very sincere and was one of the people upset yesterday. But I understand how sometimes you start out on one topic and morphs into another and your points get muddled or lost. I don't think you should worry about it anymore.

Also, it sounds like Canada is willing to take in Russian LGBTs as refugees (I think). Not sure what else is being done besides an attempt at boycotting Sochi...

I'm gay and I understand why you would be so offended by it because I was too but I don't see how it was unforgivable. Maybe it's because I've had actual horrible things done to me for being gay but I just don't view his insensitive but relatively harmless rant as anything approaching something that I could never forgive. Everyone has said something stupid and offensive in their lifetime. Even me and even you, but it doesn't mean we can't learn from our mistakes

I was speaking just for myself in my comment. No I do not forgive dethtoll. I am not a SJW. I am affected by my government and offended that someone used it as an excuse to further their own personal beleifs about something unrelated. That is dishonest and insensitive and, at least in my case, it is offensive and unforgivable.

And if you track ip you will see this and my other comment have same ip in Canada because we have to use many proxy to say things.

Because they are not the same thing and should not be treated as the same thing. If you don't want to accept the apology don't but don't act like you have some greater nobler understanding.

Apologizing or not is dethtoll's own decision, not yours. Giving someone grief for regretting something he did and then saying he's sorry is just as bad as trying to pressure them into making an apology they don't mean. Maybe you wouldn't do the same in his position, but that's not your call to make here.
