I'm not in this fandom but I think I qualify as a "wife stan" for my favorite actor and his girlfriend (so I guess I'm a "girlfriend stan")... I don't LIKE her, really, but I go out of my way to be supportive of her and their relationship so that I don't get lumped in with the tinhatters :\

Disclaimer: I genuinely like Gen and Danneel. I think they're cool people and I would like to hang out with them just as much as I would Jared or Jensen.

I love how people flipped their everloving shit recently when Danneel tweeted pictures of her baby. And jumped all in everyone's business when they reposted it. Because they clearly don't follow her twitter and had no fucking clue she actually allowed the picture to be on the internet. Lol fans.

No. Which is worse, people who mercilessly attack the wives AND children of two actors OR the people who stick up for those wives? I am going to have to go to the ones not sending death threats to a woman and her child because they get in the way of things that don't exist.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I get what anon is saying. He/She doesn't like that people are fake-liking the wives just to be on the good side of fandom.

But yeah, given the level of crazy and vitriol in the Supernatural fandom, I think fake liking is better than real hating...

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
When I read things like this, I cannot comprehend why Jared and Jensen do not straight up walk away from this show and all the crazy that goes with it.

At the end of the day, it's just a job. Not worth the crap these two actors and their families put up with.

I was wondering why spouses and families had to be brought into the discussion at all, and then I thought, "Oh, right. RPF shenanigans." I'm not in the fandom, but I agree with you. I'll take stanning over bashing.

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I wasn't referring to the tinhatters who sent death threats and shit because, yeah, that's WAY worse. I was talking about the ones that just talked amongst themselves and whined that the ~~~secret gay romance~~~ between Jensen and Jared wasn't happening.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of get this? I'm a lot more likely to come across it than crazy tin hatters, and it often feels insincere. It comes from a good place though, so I wouldn't complain.

same. i can't really pinpoint what makes some people come off as not being genuine though.

Secret 3 - Supernatural

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-04 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the actresses Genevieve Padalecki née Cortese (Ruby from the TV show "Supernatural") and Danneel Ackles (former stage name "Danneel Harris", acted in the TV shows "One Tree Hill" and "One Life to Live"), both wives of the lead actors of the TV show "Supernatural". Genevieve has olive skin and long dark hair, and Danneel has light skin and layered dark blonde or light brown hair reaching her chest at its longest. They're both wearing sleeveless clothes and smiling for the camera in different photographs.]

I honestly find the wife stans more obnoxcious than the tinhatters. At least the tinhatters are just full on crazy. The wife stans are a lot more insidious. They pretend to care about Danneel and Genevieve so they look like a "good fan" unlike the crazies when, in reality, they don't give a shit.

Genevieve was a shitty Ruby, and most people haven't seen anything Danneel has been in, but god forbid you say that! It's just an annoying double standard. I can say how I like Mila Kunis, but think Ashton Kutcher is a douche, but if I say that Danneel's voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard, I am suddenly Satan incarnate.

For the record, I'm not into Real Person Fanfiction at all, and I have nothing against the actors' wives. I just hate that you're a "bad fan" for not caring.

I just want to say, you giving a brief summary of what the secret is about in the subject line is SUPER HELPFUL and awesome. Thank you.

I love you for straining your eyes over this unreadable graphic so the rest of us don't have to.

Um. I liked her Ruby.

I don't really understand why this is an unpopular opinion.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-04 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)

I really liked her Ruby, far more than the first one. And that was before she was with Jared, to my knowledge, so...? (Don't know anything about Daneel)

I think being nice to people (even if you aren't motivated by the purest most magical intentions) is way better than wishing death on them or their children, and I understand trying to drown out the crazy hate.

I didn't like Gen's portrayal of Ruby as much as Katie's, but if she makes Jared happy, then good for both of them. I've seen a few things Daneel has been in and she's okay. I enjoy her posts more than her acting. Both Men seem to be happy and that's good enough for me. They make pretty babies too.

I apologize in advance for this comment. I'm gonna be totally honest with you: I am on a shitload of cold medicine and there is a strong chance that this comment might make zero sense. ...Then again, I'm not sure this secret makes a buttload of sense either.

You know, I didn't like Gen's Ruby. At all. I thought the writing for Ruby 2.0 was incredibly awful - whereas I thought Ruby 1.0 was awesome and I'm still a little bitter Katie didn't get a chance to show that in more episodes - and to be honest, she didn't do a great job. I haven't actually seen much of Danneel's projects. But I loved Genevieve in Wildfire and Hated (totally deserved that award), and what I have seen of Danneel's work (One Tree Hill, Friends with Benefits) I really enjoyed. I think Gen has a nack for drama and Danneel has really great comedic timing.

SHOCKINGLY, there are actually other people who have these opinions. SHOCKINGLY, there are actually other people who have different opinions. Both of these things are okay. You know what's not okay? Hate. Any kind of hate. It's ridiculous and pointless and petty.

Kind of like this secret, tbh. You're literally hating on people who don't hate. Like, yeah, maybe some people are a little overprotective (although with the amount of disgusting hate these women get - wishing cancer on them, telling Danneel, while she was pregnant, that they hoped she lost her baby - I do understand it) but there are people who genuinely like them, not just because they're The Wives, but because they enjoy their work.

Commenting mostly to say that I saw Danneel in both OLTL and OTH long before I ever even watched Supernatural (which I only watched the first four-ish seasons of).

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
I don't feel all that sorry for those two - they probably get their own back by giggling their asses off over ugly, oafish online losers.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I've actually given this some thought before. I think the thing is, there are crazy tinhatters. They're crazy and they make death threats and they may be a small minority, but boy are they vocal.

I think for that reason, expressing any sort of dislike regarding the wives is instantly jumped on. People just have this really thin skin about that because of all the crazy hate the wives have gotten in the past.

Personally - I don't think either one of them can act to save their lives. I actually saw Genevieve on Flash Forward before I started watching SPN and hated her arc, mostly because I thought she was a shitty actress. I saw Danneel on OTH, too, and never thought much of her. I watched Ten Inch Hero after I started watching SPN and thought that she was pretty crappy. I do think she's gorgeous though. Gen, not so much.

Obviously I don't know them personally and I'm sure they're lovely people. Or not, it's not really any of my business. I like Jared and Jensen, but as a fan of the show, it's the characters I'm most interested in. So, yeah. I don't think the wives (or especially the kids) deserve the hate that gets leveled at them. But I'm also not going to say I'm a fan of the wives in particular. But, I think that so much hate gets thrown and Gen and Danneel that everyone's knee-jerk reaction is to dogpile anyone who legitimately has a negative opinion of them.

Also, Gen!Ruby sucked. Forgot to mention that. Loved Katie Cassidy's Ruby and thought Gen played a completely different character, who I didn't like at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Gen was a shitty Ruby, I agree, but I've seen her on Twitter and she seems pretty chill. I know nothing about Danneel (nor do I care) so I can't comment either way on her.

I get what you're saying, but the people who hate these women are so insane and aggressive that countermeasures are kind of necessary, in my opinion. Even if you don't care/don't like their acting, they don't deserve to be harassed and threatened the way they do. The boys care about their families very much, so I don't think it's unreasonable for fans to make efforts to include them. By supporting them, it somewhat balances all the hate and slander, so at least they aren't left thinking the ENTIRE fandom is batshit and cruel.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
stopped reading once you said genevive was a shitty ruby tbh

I'm not a wife stan by any means, so I just ignore their real lives. I'm here for the show, not who they are as people.
