I find it very hard to believe that most slash readers aren't just in it for their love of seeing two dudes make out because even in fandoms where women are equally represented as men, femslash is STILL almost non-existent compared to m/m slash.

And even when the women aren't written as well as the men, if people can ship two dudes that show up for like 5 minutes on a show and never interact with one another, I find it baffling that they can't do the same for two women who have lots and lots of screen time and possibly interact wonderfully.

To me it all just comes off as the same as when dudes watch lesbian porn. I mean there's nothing wrong with it, unless they let that cross into real life, but it drives me nuts seeing all these slash fans list off the reasons they don't ship femslash and claim it's all in the writing or blah blah. Give me a break! There are plenty of shippable women all over the place that get overlooked for the sake of two hot white dudes who look at each other once.

This. So much bullshit and excuses in this thread. You don't like it, fine, but stop acting like all the forces in the universe bullied out of liking it.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Except I do like it, just not the majority that is around. So I've been bullied out of it yes.

But no doubt you and lieu will claim it's internal misogyny at work

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
can you elaborate? I'm not sure I understand. You've been bullied out of femsladh because your femslash ships aren't popular??

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
What does this even mean

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
You were bullied because you only like a little femslash? What? Is this a troll? I can't tell.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I love femslash but I'm not in any fandoms right now that have pairings I like. I'm sure there are shippable female characters out there in other fandoms but since I don't like the canon I don't read the fic. The fandoms I'm into right now only have shippable male characters. Get over it.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Why so defensive? Oh, and, unless there is literally nothing but sausages for miles in your fandom, you don't have the final say on which characters are shippable or not.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
DA

My fandoms are mostly one woman or less or else the women don't meet or are family. Some people ship them but I don't. I'm not the final say on who is shippable but I'm the final say on who I ship.

I don't see that AYRT is being defensive? Maybe it's just me but you come off as an offensive condescending asshole and it looks like that's what they're responding to. Maybe it's just a tone issue.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Why do you keep attacking people for not reading a certain quota of femslash?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Good for you, you're in the minority. The fact that femslash is so incredibly rare in almost every fandom ever says a lot more than your individual experience.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
So what? If you're so sad and whiny that people don't like what you like, write the stuff yourself. Nobody's stopping you.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
This is the most useless thing to say. The people who like it already are the ones writing it. The fact that so few like it is the problem. And no, this isn't just a matter of taste, there's definitely something wrong with this picture.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-05 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no problem saying I'm not into femslash because I'm a straight woman for whom the presence of at least one male character is a prerequisite for enjoying romance or smut. However, I think som do perceive a certain pressure to come up with explanations and justifications beyond that.

To my mind any self-identified feminist femslash fans who refuse to accept 'I'm into men' as as valid reason for not digging f/f are shooting themselves in the foot. Tell people that 'I don't swing that way' isn't a good enough explanation and they'll start finding reasons why the female characters and/or f/f pairings in their fandom are crap.
