I see where you are coming from, but I cannot help thinking that you judge actions of a character who belongs in a different epoch by employing modern ethics, and that's where the problem lies.

But then I'm not overly familiar with this particular canon source, so there may be other, more valid reasons. Perhaps the gladiator in question seemed to mind at some point.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-06 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)The real reason would be the "Women can´t rape men, because men always want to have the sex, especially with a pretty lady. When a woman molest a man it is totally funny!" - trope

Secret 12 - Sherlock Holmes 2009 (warning for sexual violence)
[Picture is Robert Downey Junior as Sherlock Holmes from the 2009 movie of the same name. He is naked, lying back over pillows with his legs crossed at the ankles, and presumably tied from the wrists to bedposts on a bed and with a cushion covering his crotch.]
I'm not a rape or sexual assault victim, I'm also not the kind of person who thinks everything is advocating rape culture (not that rape culture isn't bad).
But the fact that Irene explicitly drugged him, made out with him and at the very least tied him up and took all of his clothes off still makes me really uncomfortable.
Double standards ahoy!

I just don't understand the "double-standards" comment here at all. Especially since, while this scene never made me uncomfortable, you make a lot of good points OP.
You are allowed to feel uncomfortable about rape without being a victim of it
Anyway, OP, you have a very valid point. And you don't need to think everything is rape culture to have that point. As the person above me pointed out, if everything is rape culture, then eventually nothing really is and critiquing it would be impossible. You're allowed to not see rape culture everywhere but see rapey undertones here.
