sort of inspired by #2

While we're on the topic of socially unacceptable hobbies, do you judge adults who play with toys (action figures, Barbies, MLP, etc.)?

(And yes, I know there are lots of people who collect toys, but I'm talking about actually taking them out of their boxes and playing with them.)

I think I'd be jealous of them, if anything. I don't really have the imagination to do stuff like that anymore. :(

I judge the people that don't play with them occasionally more.

The operative word being occasionally of course. Everything in moderation, even excess.

I pose mine and take stupid pictures. That's about it really.

I don't actually see any adults playing with their toys (except on TV I guess) and it's not something that should affect me one way or another so.. not really, I guess.

I collect dolls that I take out of the box. I change their clothes, do their hair, and take pictures of them. I dunno if that's exactly what you mean. They definitely don't hold my attention for hours the way they did when I was little.

Side eye a little bit, mostly out of confusion - but whatever rocks their boat. As long as they don't expect me to join in or try to talk about it with me...

It depends on how they are playing with them, tbh.

It depends I guess? I can understand playing dress-up with dolls and stuff, that can be relaxing, but like, making them talk and act out scenes alone...that'd be weirder imo.

That said, I think I'd love to still have a lego set just to build random stuff.

Play is good.

Not at all! I actually don't get people who insist on keeping everything boxed. Part of the fun of having cool toys is fooling around with them and putting them in amusing poses and stuff. :D

Does posing my toys in sexual and comical ways count as "playing?" Because I don't think I'm in a position to judge if that's the case.

The only people I really judge on this subject are the ones who judge others for enjoying unusual hobbies that don't harm anyone just because they're "weird."

I don't care what you do as long as you're not hurting anyone. Besides, I find normally I'm the odd one out with my hobbies at work and things like that. I just tend to keep mum.

honestly, no; but the idea incites rage in me because I live with my 22-year-old brother and he's always saying "ooooh I don't have enough for my half of the electric bill!" and then he gets a fucking $500 Jill Valentine doll in the mail. So in his case, yes.

Depends on how they're playing them. Moderation is key for me.

I love taking my toys out to play with them. I wish they had more female character toys in my favorite fandom 'verse, though; there are all sorts/sizes of male charas, but versions of the female charas are almost non-existent. If I could do something with Dolfies, or one of those doll types, I'd be happy to make a few girls to go with my boys, but alas, my skills/money don't lend themselves to such extravagances.

I don't judge it, exactly, but I find it a little weird just because my imagination works differently and playing with a physical object feels like it limits me.

Only if I won't let me play with them, too.

Dollies and such

(Anonymous) 2013-09-12 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
What exactly is "playing" in this context?
I have quite the little collection of Monster High dolls and some MLPs and Transformers. The MLPs get their hair styled and the TFs get posed. I wouldn't consider this "playing", more like making them look good on the shelf.

With my Monster Highs I style them, dress them, pose them, take pics of them and sometimes I just like to have them in my hands and look at all their beautiful details and just admire them. I also like to have some of them change places once in a while. I move them around in my apartment.
This could be considered "playing" wth them.

But I'm not making them move and narrate over them like most kids do.

However, I would never judge someone who would do something like this. A lot of people write fanfic or draw fanart and to me that isn't very different from acting out stories with pre-existing characters in toy form.
I have yet to meet such a person, though. I'm active in doll fandom and yet I haven't seen anyone "playing" with their dolls for real.

As someone who has the rather strange believe that my stuffed toys could actually maybe be alive (yeah yeah, read too much roverandom as a kid) and therefore talk and play with them when I have the time (though this behaviour, not the belief, seems to run in my family)... no, have fun?

Addendum: I also know of at least two more families where this sort of thing happens, across generations. So yeah this seemed normal enough while growing up.

If the majority of your collection is scantily clad underage moe girls, then yes, I judge you. Other than that, no.
