Not at all! I actually don't get people who insist on keeping everything boxed. Part of the fun of having cool toys is fooling around with them and putting them in amusing poses and stuff. :D

Along similar lines, apparently the bottom dropped out of the comics market, so all the twits (like me) who bagged and boxed their precious first issues now have piles of cat litter sitting in the closet.

I suspect the same is likely going to happen to all of the special edition toys that every artist and their cousin were doing in the 90s.

Nah, you just have a lot of interesting shit that might not have much monetary value, which is fine. To me, the point of collecting stuff has always been, you know, the stuff. I doubt any of my antique anatomical textbooks are actually worth anything, but I like having lots of books full of old-timey drawings of guts and bones.

...COLLECTORS, I IMPLORE YOU. UNBOX YOUR TOYS!

Oh yeah, I have the whole Delano run of Hellblazer. Saving that for a re-read one of these days, assuming I don't get the trade paperback instead.

This. I'm a My Little Pony customizer, and the place I usually hang out is a subforum of a site that's mostly for collectors. The amount of "If I don't buy this 20-year-old toy at a thrift shop, someone might buy it for their kid and that kid might play with it!" makes me want to punch people. And that's not even going into the rage that the current-line collectors fly into whenever an old toy gets reissued and now they "have" to buy Pinkie Pie again to have a full set.

...What's amusing is that you might get it, and like, customize all over it! Which is probably "worse" than anything some little kid would do.

Admittedly, my boyfriend and I have a running joke when we try to go back for a neat toy that we passed up for whatever reason, and someone beats us to it, which goes something like this: "God, some little kid is probably sucking on it right now!" But that's more about lack of appreciation, and would work equally well as "God, it was probably bought by some collector that won't open it!" or "God, someone probably got it to sell on EBay."

Yep, it totally is. Because I know that there are collectors looking for old ponies that will never ever be made again, and yet I still "destroy" their mass-produced bit of plastic with my paint and clay. It's like I'm more interested in enjoying my toys than boasting about owning them or something!

Lol I remember rushing to get Beanie Babies before they 'retired' and being really careful to KEEP THE TAGS ON and now there's a giant bin of them at A.C. Moore for like two bucks each.

Also Pokemon cards. Pffff, I could wipe my ass with them if they weren't so small and hard. Nobody wants that stuff anymore!

Except that one that's going for a ridiculous amount on ebay right now.

I sort of understand when it's a Comic Con exclusive or similar stuff. You can resell that shit after a year and get way more money for it than you paid for.

But when it's just playline? I rip that shit out of its box like it's Christmas and then I spend at least an hour moving it and looking at it (and while doing that I tend to squee).
