if someone never ever found a single non-het pairing that they liked in any media ever? then yes, i'd probably judge them a bit and wonder if there wasn't some sort of homophobia going on.

people make all these claims about "not being able to identify with a same-sex pairing"... but it's not like gay or bi people are an alien species. they're still human. they still have the same feelings as straight people, the relationship dynamics often aren't all that different, and they still encounter many of the same issues that straight people do, plus some additional ones. what makes it so hard to identify with?

idgaf about people who are only interested in reading a certain kind of porn. that's cool, everyone has their own things that get them off. but just plain ships, even without sex involved? yeah, i judge you.

I'm a straight chick with plenty of f/f pairings I ship. Funny how I'm able to ship something I don't find sexually attractive. It's almost as if sexual attractiveness doesn't have to factor into enjoying chemistry and 'clicking' between two people...! *le gasp*

I'm bi, but I can understand how a straight person wouldn't want to read slash. A lot of fics in slash fandom involve characters' struggling with their sexuality. I personally like those types of stories because I can relate. I can understand how a straight person would be uninterested in that because they cannot relate to someone struggling with their sexuality.

I'm a lesbian, and *I* can't relate to those kind of stories. My sexuality has always made perfect sense to me. I'd rather read almost any other type of slash/femmeslash than that particular trope.

[SA] which is to say that I agree with you, completely. If someone reads fanfic for characters/stories that they can relate to, then I can def. understand how it wouldn't be worth it for many het people to slog through slash and femmeslash fics for the rare ones that aren't all about gayngst.

Finally someone is making sense in this thread.
I got a similar excuse a few years ago from an ex-friend of mine. She was absolutely crazy for m/m and f/m but "couldn't relate to" f/f pairings.

Kind of odd, being able to "relate" to two guys together but not to two girls when you yourself are female. People like that should just admit that shipping to them is all about the sex. Shipping for porn is a-ok. Just don't pull that "can't relate to" shit.

Yeah, the BS about not relating to the opposite gender or people from different backgrounds sucks. Come on, we're all human beings and while our individual experiences differ, on an emotional level, we feel the same shit.
