Sleep patterns
Usually I sleep about 7 hours an wake up with an alarm clock. Ideally I would love to be able to wake up without an alarm clock, but I need to wake up at 6 am, so I probably need to go to bed earler for that to happen. I would also love to be able to lucid dream... I'm starting by just trying to remember and write down my dreams each morning, has anyone ever had success learning to lucid dream?

(You could also argue that you're not really in control of the dream, but just dreaming that you're controlling it. There is absolutely no way to be sure. :P)

I lucid dream now and then! And I started doing it entirely by accident. The only advice I can give is that, if you realize you're dreaming, remain calm. Don't get too excited or try to do too much right away, because you'll wake up.
Re: Sleep patterns
I started trying by writing my dreams down, too, and for a while when I did it I was able to remember my dreams better but then I stopped so what progress I had is gone.
I've heard drinking apple juice before bed helps make for wicked dreams.
Re: Sleep patterns
I used to follow lucid dream instructions that I found in a book, but never had success with it intentionally. I can remember having two lucid dreams completely randomly. In the first one I was grocery shopping, inspecting a melon when I realized I was dreaming, but then I woke up. The second time I had a lucid dream I immediately had sex with someone. :P
Re: Sleep patterns
I don't know if it's lucid dreaming but every so often I have dreams where I know I'm asleep(or at least I'm dreaming that I know I'm asleep?) and I do things like give myself super-powers or change what I don't like about the dream. I've forcibly ended my own dreams too when they go bad. (I did however make the mistake of telling my dream that I knew I was asleep once and uh, that didn't end well)
Re: Sleep patterns
I never stay asleep for more than five straight hours, which sucks. I also have my laptop on the bed with me and put movies on to fall asleep to. I used to sleep with my headphones/music on, but the laptop gives me the background noise without sacrificing my hearing and the risk of strangulation. XD
I also have a wind up/hammer alarm clock because I kill electronics. Every electronic or battery operated clock I've ever had died within a few months. On one the numbers started going upside down/doing weird things.

I kind of like staying up all night, but the main disadvantage is that I never feel like doing much but mess around on the computer and go to sleep when I get home, whereas when I had regular day jobs I used to do things in the evening all the time even though I still needed the same number of total sleep hours.
I used to write down my dreams every morning but then I started dreaming I had gotten up and written down the dreams and the whole thing got weird.
Re: Sleep patterns
(Anonymous) 2013-09-25 09:31 am (UTC)(link)I go to bed between ... 11 pm and 1 am. I usually don't sleep until 2-3 hour after going to bed (which means something between 1 am and 3-4 am)
I have one radio-alarm clock and one alarm set on my phone - set to 7:30 am and 8:05 am respectively - on off days. Work days are irregular, but alarm is set to at least an hour before I actually need to get up.
It's funny, actually: When I can sleep in, I actually sometimes wake without the alarm at 6-7 am and am perfectly awake, but when I need to get up at a certain time, I'm always incredibly tired when waking up - even if it's much later XD
