I disapprove of fat-shaming her, but she's deserves to be criticized for her bad writing, plagiarism and bullying. That's not bullying, that's calling someone out on their shit.

Evidently *sigh* It reminds me of when people shame shallow aspects of female politicians when they could easily criticize their stance or intelligence instead.

I write fanfic and original fic. I have two and a half completed manuscripts of original fic (thanks to NaNoWriMo) that need to be edited, but I do plan on querying someday whenever all that is done.

Even if it doesn't end up in your actual file, you'd better believe that teachers and administrators talk to other teachers and administrators. A girl who student taught at my school had to leave the state to find a teaching position because of shit that went down while she was with us.

The reason plagiarism is bad isn't the money. It's the fact that someone is gaining credit for your ideas. Making it about money is just... depressing. It's still just as bad if it makes no money, but is seen by plenty, which CC's fanfiction was. She stole ideas and passed them as her own. That's still horrible, whether it was published (i.e. making money) or not.

If you can just up and decide to stop writing because some cheating sociopath hurted your fee fees, you're no writer. You're a child throwing a temper tantrum. I don't know who to feel more sorry for: you, or the delusional mollycoddlers insisting in the comments that you're somehow still a writer even if you don't write.

You can still use vocabulary, sentence construction and all other kind of things to convey how someone speaks without butchering every word. The standard spelling does not imply standard pronunciation.

*points to her reaction to the film* Of course now she's playing with people who can defend themselves, but that doesn't mean she hasn't obviously completely failed to mature.

Just because someone has personal issues, that does not give them permission to treat others like crap or mooch off them. The OP is a person too. And they were hurt by their friend's selfish actions. And even after the friend went home, they offered no explanation and no apology.

Why the hell should people be more understanding of this "friend"? From the info we have, this person is an ass who treated the OP badly. Nobody has any right to do that, disorder or no disorder. If the friend does have an anxiety disorder or mental illness that is so bad it makes them incapable of offering thanks or paying their own way, then maybe they shouldn't visit other peoples' houses until they get a little more control over their illness.

Hilarious part is that OP doesn't mention any actual interaction with Cassie Clare, so it's CC's very existence that offends OP's feefees.

I like to do puzzles on jigzone while listening, I tend to zone out if I'm working on pictures or browsing the net so it's perfect to just do puzzle pieces.

Anyway, the transcripts are there for a reason. I had a hard time with the first episode of WTNV, didn't really like the guy who reads it, it was "too quirky, too amazing, too hyped"? But then it grew on me and I love it now. Just wish it came out more often!

Being someone who has seen writers whose work is not bad but they seem to never be able to finish anything before they wander off to write a newer idea... I agree with you.

Also, the main reason I almost never write is that I know I am exactly that sort of person.

I would call myself a writer simply because I sometimes write stuff. The fact that I am not good at finishing stuff I start writing means I consider myself not a good writer.

I love me some Ursula. I'd looooove to play her on stage sometime.

ayrt

This is why I don't call myself a writer.

[personal profile] juliamon 2013-10-09 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
I am this way as well. I find it easier to say thank you to a complete stranger (eg. a waiter bringing you a glass of water) than to someone I actually know and interact with. I've spent a lot of my life trying not to speak at all out of fear of embarrassing myself, so when I visit my friend and stay with his family he has to constantly remind me under his breath to say hello and good morning and such when his family members say it to me. It's a really painful position to be in, afraid of saying something foolish, but also afraid of offending by NOT saying something.

I imagine nobody will see this since it's several days old now, but I just came back from visiting said friend and it felt really relevant. I'm really terrible at expressing happiness IRL (I like to say that I smile on the inside) so I always am afraid of being interpreted as the sort of person OP hosted even when I am genuinely enjoying myself.

There's still no excuse for trying to get someone kicked out of school for relatively minor reasons.

I know her a little on LJ, and she's mostly all right. She just has a bit of a CC hobby-horse.
