I fucking hate "Author chose not to warn" because I keep coming up on abortion fic and it gives me PTSD flashbacks to my miscarriage. Warnings and tags are there for a reason!

...That's not covered by the standard archive warnings, though. It could appear under 'no archive warnings apply'.

Yeah, exactly. Regardless of what you think about the ethics of abortion, it's not going to be "major character death", either way.

Though I'm now kind of curious about what fandom is producing significant numbers of abortion fics. It's not a trope I've ever come across, and while I'm not surprised it's a topic some people choose to handle, I wasn't aware it was a widespread thing.

Why not employ some basic common sense and choose to avoid those fics explicitly tagged "author chose not to warn" the same way you'd avoid a fic explicitly tagged with "abortion"?

Abortion isn't the same as a miscarriage though

DA

Pretty sure that doesn't stop the issue from being traumatic for someone who's lost a wanted baby.

sorry, but if you choose to read a fic that's specifically labeled "author chose not to warn"? that's all on you. what more warning do you need? the author already said point-blank that they don't use warnings, meaning that if you have some kind of trigger, you're reading their fics at your own risk.

+1

The whole point of the 'author chooses not to warn' tag, as far as I can see, is to give the writer an option to let potential readers know there are (or may be) warnings, they are just not going to tell you what they are. So, as a reader, it should be common sense to avoid 'author chooses not to warn' if you have a trigger that may fall under that category.

And I get anxiety attacks from men with moustaches. I demand all facial hair be expunged from the internet.

"Choose not to warn" IS a valid warning. Read further at your own risk. Duh.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-06 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
Then don't fucking read fics labeled "choose not to warn," dumbass.
