I didn't realize the sexuality of a seven year old was a big deal.

It's not about sexuality, though? It's about gender identity.

A seven-year-old's gender identity shouldn't be a big deal, either.

...but then, I don't think any gender identity should be a big deal, so I'm not a very good person to ask.

Tbh, this. Unless a kid has problems with their gender identity, I think it is really weird to pay a lot of attention to this particular aspect of their life.

(that being said, I'm clueless as to what the actual secret is talking about, so that's hypothetical)

BASICALLY IF A LITTLE GIRL LIKES PANTS THERE'S A GOOD CHANCE SHE ISN'T A GIRL

WE'RE SO FUCKING CAUGHT UP IN BEING FORWARD THINKING WE'VE BREEZED RIGHT PAST WOMEN'S LIBERATION INTO GENDER EXISTENTIALISM

i think it's less about the child and more about the parents' reaction, honestly. it says a lot about them both, seeing how open they are to shiloh's preferences. it gets a good example for others.

you're right that these things shouldn't be a big deal, but the entire rest of the world making it a big deal when someone doesn't fit squarely into societal norms doesn't give us much of a choice.

You're right, I should have said gender identity. Still don't see why it's a big deal, though.

I grew up in a house with strict traditional gender roles (so much so that I thought I was trans for awhile though I am not) so seeing a kid not limited like that and happy is a big deal for me. Sorry if that's offensive or something.

It's not offensive, and I'm sorry your family were assholes. But it is kind of strange that focusing on a 7 year old's gender identity is a thing.

Except for the part where I'm really not focusing on her gender identity, but on the parents who are raising her how I wished I had been raised.
