What Does Your Family Call You
(Anonymous) 2013-10-13 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)I'm Russian Jewish, so aside from ending my sister and my first names with -atchka and -leh, my mother calls us "kissa" (kitty) or "ketzseleh" (kitten), because she really loves cats. Sometimes when she's talking to our actual cat in Russian I have no idea which one of us she's talking to.
My father calls us both "Momeleh", which is Yiddish for "little mother", and a common term of endearment. Our grandmother has a different Yiddish accent, so she calls us "Mameleh".
So what about you? Are you a "sweetheart" or a "tiny scoundrel" or "half-pint" or what have you?

Re: What Does Your Family Call You
My little brother called me Dadda* when he was a little boy, he went by Diddy though that was a bit more logical as his first name starts with a D, he still does to a degree, but he is a teenager now and he is too cool for pet names.
Pet names are really not that widespread in Norway, especially not in families, except for the youngest ones, so I assume people called me RenateMor* and/or RenateMin* because those are the two common ones... Oh and LilleMor*.
*how on earth he got Dadda out of Renate is the big question
*Mother, in Norwegian, but it takes on a slightly different meaning when you add it to the end of a childs name
*Mine, and again same as with mother, not exactly the same as in English.
*Little Mother and again translating something directly from Norwegian to English changes some of the meaning.
Re: What Does Your Family Call You
My relatives have some variation, whether my old nickname, squirt, or with my Oma, my name in German.

Re: What Does Your Family Call You
My mom calls me "Missy" and she used to call me "hun" when I was younger, and will also often refer to me by a nickname which basically means "stinky" in Thai because when I was little, I hated having to wash my hair.
Re: What Does Your Family Call You
I did have a friend who used to call me Turtle (from my last name) sometimes and I always got so irritated when she did it, haha! We had characters we played together so I was also Sharon for a few years and she was Jewel. I have a mug I decorated at her sister's birthday party that I keep change in now that says "SHARON" and it confuses people to this day!

(Anonymous) 2013-10-13 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)It rhyms in my language, so it's pretty cute.
Otherwise just sparrow or dear.
Re: What Does Your Family Call You
One of my grannies calls me "mi perrita" ("my puppy-dog"). Chileans are VERY prone to animal-related nicknames and slang.
Last time my mom was angry with me, which was yesterday, she called me "perra de porquería" (which would amount to "dirt-made bitch"). *le sigh*
Re: What Does Your Family Call You
My bowling balls are actually engraved like that, one Twinkie, one Wheezie.
Wheezie comes from being an asthmatic with the middle name Louise. XD
