I love it, too, and hurt a little inside every time it gets bashed. YANA, OP.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-16 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the pilot was abysmal but it has been getting better each week. Once they figure out how to get the characters clicking the fandom should settle down. Even if it doesn't just like what you like OP and try to ignore the haters.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-16 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You're definitely not alone. I have really enjoyed it. I expected it to start slowly, I was willing to live through early iffy characterization and character blandness, and I'm really pleased that it's already starting to firm up, that the main female character's rounding out and becoming someone I like watching, that Ward is definitely not the main focus, that the stories are becoming better paced - and this is only after four epis. I was a little sad to see a pretty ivory colored team, but it's not completely homogenous. And COULSON! All in all? A definite B in my books, and it has a lot of potential for heading higher. I feel like yelling "Patience, guys!" to fandom sometimes.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-16 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Patience, BAH! Fandom has no time for patience! Don't you know everything should be wonderfully inclusive with perfect characterization from the get-go?

OP.

Yay, we can band together and live in our happy place! :D

(Anonymous) 2013-10-16 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, considering Skye and Ward feels like characters ripped straight out of a bad fanfic and the writing has been abysmal compared to other Whedon works, I'm not surprised people are disappointed.

Also, wth with Melinda May trying to claim that ESP is not a possible thing in a Marvel universe. It's like the writers aren't actually trying.

Hey there OP. I am one of those haters you mentioned (although i will give the show a couple more episodes i don't think i will recover from my disappointment) HOWEVER please don't let us deter you from loving the show. Like what you like :)

I like it a lot. Sure, it's like Alias except I don't like their Sydney and Vaughn (what's her name and Agent Douchebag) but I'm enjoying the show. I'm happy to pop my popcorn and sit in front of it every week. I like Fitz and Simmons a lot, I love Agent Coulson, and May is growing on me. Honestly, it reminds me of what might happen if Alias had a baby with X-Files and threw in superheroes. Nothing wrong with that combination for me. I'll just stay away from the fandom so they don't ruin it for me. :)

You're not alone, OP. Though, I get that it's frustrating if you're trying to participate in fandom and find nothing but haters.

Yay, another shield fan! I sometimes feel like the only person who genuinely likes it too. Logically...yea, of course I'm not, but there's a lot of people disappointed with it and I have no one to talk about it with. (Well, my mom watches it too and enjoys it as well, but after the show is over that's it.)

IMO the show did start off slow and the premiere wasn't exactly impressive, but I've enjoyed every episode more than the last and as of now like every single character; I really look forward to every episode too. It isn't a perfect show and it might not be groundbreaking either, but I like it. I hope it continues to get better, we continue to get character development, and we get a second season! (I'm also hoping for more cameos. MORE CAMEOS, PLEASE.)

I enjoy it too, it had a bit of a slow start I think but now I'm really warming up to the characters and I've been enjoying each new episode so I'm happy with it.

I like it too! It's slowly getting better, imo. I'm not ready to write it off.

I like it, too. The first couple eps were rough, but it's picked up every week and yesterday's ep was fantastic.

I'm with you. I look forward to it every week.

I watch it with my dad (occasionally my mom but it's a little too violent for her lol)

I ~want~ to like it more than I actually ~do~ like it.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
And I do like, just not as much as I should. None of the characters have really popped for me. I do like Coulson and May (although I do not understand her stance in last night’s episode) and I’m just sort of meh about the rest – thankfully though, both Ward and Skye are getting slightly more nuanced personality/background development. And I feel like I should like Fitz and Simmons more than I do, but they still sort of feel like caricatures to me, rather than actual people. I like the action scenes; they do those pretty well (except for truck vs. van – I mean, honestly, it shouldn’t be more exciting in the commercial than it is in the show). And I’m totally down with the campy, cheesy, flashy thing they seem to be going for in some scenes, I just wish they fully commit to it – I think it would make the show more enjoyable, to me anyway.

But that’s me, you and your parents should have fun watching and you should try to ignore all the dislike – it’s not only sci-fi, but comic book related, and then there’s the Whedon factor, and all three of those things get fans vocal, passionate, and polarized.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm liking it too. Right now it's my favorite thing on the air.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
I enjoy it too. It's a goofy little sci-fi show. There's some general problems, but I can look past them and I feel like some things will be resolved with time.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
That's ok. Some people just have terrible taste. Look at twilight.

I love it like that too. It always makes me sad when I see people bagging it. It feels like they're basing their opinions on the movies and just haven't given it a chance.

To the people who say "It's getting better"

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
No.

It is not.

What is happening is that your standards are being slowly eroded by how terrible this show is, and how much you want to like Joss Whedons latest dross.

This is not a good thing.

It's like freezing to death. When you start to feel warm and sleepy it's time to panic.

Each episode has gotten better and better, imo!

The only character I'm not fully on board with is Ward.

I hear you, OP. This show is the one I'm looking forward to the most right now and I'm acualfax baffled by the sudden high standards that just don't seem to be applied to any of the other fandom-favorite shows.

Anyway, I've been enjoying it and so far I like the entire cast. I was a bit lukewarm on Skye and Ward after the pilot, but after the latest one they're kind of my favorites. Huh. I hope May gets more screentime, though.
