(Anonymous) 2013-10-16 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)Also, I'm not sure I'm happy where the last episode was going - I get the feeling they're trying to include some fanon things about Cecil into the canon and I really wouldn't like that.

The episode One Year Later, where Carlos and Cecil have their big dramatic emotional breakthrough, is followed by Faceless Old Woman, which doesn't so much as mention Carlos' name. I imagine that was frustrating for people who had already waited two weeks, and now had to wait two more for any payoff on the relationship. But in terms of content, it's only a half-hour break from the cliffhanger before picking back up again.
No reason to think the Strex plot won't unfold at the same speed, and be solidly built up along the way.
+1

I think this brother/mirror thing is a build up that will cross-over with the Strexcorp line.

Oh, and yeah, I agree.

I mean, I'm freaked out, upset, and worried -- because characters I like appear to be under serious threat. That doesn't mean I'm not also happy, excited, and interested, because it's a dramatic storytelling choice and I look forward to seeing where it goes. It's the normal way to react when a story is good, dramatic, and features characters you like.
What threat?
You are entirely too negative. There's a pill for that.
Believe in a smiling god! :D

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 12:49 am (UTC)(link)I wish people would actually look up the meaning of that word. I once heard that a Tumblr attacked people for having "too many" white OCs. On a 'whitewashing' blog.

Too easy
But yeah, this too.
So glad that one shirt didn't win. Feel bad for the artist though, who was legit good. But there shouldn't be such a clearly defined canon. Glad the winner is a lot more vague. (but I wanted Date Night!)

(Anonymous) 2013-10-17 12:25 am (UTC)(link)Guess what, kids, this is the time where you learn about not confusing an actor with his role.
Re: This fandom is shit
But then I found an automatic tag changer and stopped caring.

Has no one bothered to consider there might be some Night Vale-esque explanation for his name changing, with whatever weird transformation happened to Cecil? This was actually my immediate assumption and now I'm just minorly annoyed and confused by the whole thing.

Back to the subject at hand. Most of the fandom seems to follow the show purely for the gay. They don't care about the rest of the town, they just want their adorable babies to be okay and still together. Surely you saw the shitstorm that came down after the "chews his food a little more loudly than is polite" line?
I enjoyed the new episode not because of the (possible?) Cecil backstory we got, but rather the information on the town we got from it (ie. the advent of Big Rico's, the history of NVCR). And I feel like one of the few who did. There's no "wrong way" to enjoy something but I feel like a huge chunk of the fandom is missing the point of the show as a whole.

Even more so when you put "missing the point of the show" with "not enjoying this for the backstory of the main character." If you take out all the stuff about Cecil's personal life, romantic or not, that's half the show gone -- and the other half wouldn't seem nearly so compelling without the contrast.

(Plus, like greenvelvetcake said, I think StrexCorp is sneakier than that. I wouldn't expect too much from them right away; I'm sure there's plenty going on 'behind the scenes' in Night Vale, but we might not hear about it right away.)
Unrelated: All these Night Vale secrets are making me want Night Vale icons. Except...er...podcast. Someone should do quote icons.
