The only fandom coming to my mind is Wreck-it Ralph. Sure, most folks in it are nice, depending where you go in it, but so many people are eager to split up Felix and Calhoun so they can pair the two up with different people- mostly Felix. I love the fandom, but you can't say who the 'fandom bicycle' is because there's just so many. It's hard to get a het ship out there without it being buried in gay ships.

I am sad at the effect of rabid slash fangirls on my friendships and het pairings too. :( I read primarily slash but damn sometimes I want to read some het that isn't Character/Reader (those creep me out) or terrible.

At least the Avengers fandom has a decent amount of Natasha/Other.

So, you say it's not cool to break up canon marriages for slash pairings.

--What if a canon het marriage is broken up for an alternative het pairing?
--Or what if a canon gay marriage is broken up for an alternative slash pairing?

Oh, fuck this, I'm not going through every combination. What makes slash fangirls different from every other kind of shipper breaking up canon relationships since forever?

I don't know how you're running into this to the degree you think it's 'ruining' the whole fandom for you. It almost sounds like you've been going out of your way to read fic (badfic even?) of that pairing to find reasons it's horrible and ruining.

I have several fandoms where the main pairing is one I don't like and, while annoying how much volume of fic/art there is in comparison to my small-ship, it isn't that hard to avoid it. Scroll past, don't click on and read the fic, tumblr savior, narrow down searches, ect.

They also delete every het fic that is posted and make witch hunts every now and the in search of het fans to banish them from the fandom!

I can see why people get mad about this, but then again, is someone holding a gun to your head and forcing you to read the slash fic for your fandom or look at the slashy pictures? No? Okay then. Look at the stuff you enjoy, ignore the stuff you don't, and just move on.

I get being frustrated if you're not hugely into m/m slash and yet that's what the fandom mostly consists of.

But people are entitled to ship their non-canon ships, whether they are slash or het. I mean, if I ship A/B but C/B is canon, what do you expect me to do? Abandon ship? I mean, why?
It's not like I'm changing the actual canon material by writing a story where A/B get together.
Just read the fic that keeps your favorite ship together and avoid the rest.

At the end of the day, everyone in fandom writes for fun and wish-fullfillment, so no one owes anyone else anything.

Oh, I didn't know that fanficcers go out and delete the canon marriages from every copy of the canon material and rewrite every single copy in existence! Maybe these legendary slashy editors just haven't got to my books/DVDs/games/etc yet!

One part of me was willing to sympathise with you, because since returning to LotR (via The Hobbit) I have had very little interest in the idea of reading characters like Aragorn, Faramir, even Éomer, married to anyone but Arwen, Éowyn, or Lothíriel (just to give the most famous examples). But the thing is, I didn't have that quibble back when I was first in the fandom and slashing those male characters liek whoa.

Also, no fucks are given over "breaking up" Harry and Ginny (in favour of Hermione for preference) because I find I have trouble believing their relationship would work (and even more work believing Ron and Hermione's would).

But the thing is? No matter how many fics "break up" canon marriages, they are still married in canon. Fangirls can argue 'til they're blue in the face over their chosen non-canon pairing, it's still non-canon. I don't give fucks about that either, because I know I frequently ship non-canon. I don't need canon to validate me.

And you can learn to avoid ships for non-canon pairings. Also, I am inclined to suspect you're a troll, because the whole phrasing seems inflammatory.
