I don't want a female Doctor. Sorry. I would not mine another female Time Lord, but not the Doctor.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-06 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Likewise. There could easily be female Time Lords, so why not create a new character instead of trying to warp a preexisting one for no reason.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-06 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
same here.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-06 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
LOL seriously? Simply being female = warped now?

I honestly do not care one way or the other, but it's comments like yours that make it really hard to take the "OMG NOOOOO YOU CAN'T MAKE THE DOCTOR A WOMAN!" argument seriously.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-06 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
Do you have reading comprehension issues? I said no such thing and referred to the process of turning a male character into a female one, which is not exactly straightforward, especially when it hasn't happened before and would have no reason to happen now. The Doctors warp slightly between different iterations, but this would make it glaringly obvious.

Agreed. I don't even follow Doctor Who but it's one of those characters that really don't need a gender change in the name of equality and feminism. I can't see him as a she. Bring him to meet a group of woman Time Lords! That'll solve it. Or make it worse.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-06 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. Give me great female companions, or bring back an awesome female Time Lord (I'd *love* to see either Romana or the Rani in New Who), but I really don't want a female Doctor. Ever.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-06 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Are you me? Because that's exactly how I feel. I'd especially love to see Romana or the Rani show up!

^ THIS. A female Time Lord to be on the level of the Doctor would be awesome. However, Moffat should not try, but that's only because, as much as I love his female characters, they also have issues. It should wait until we have a new head person of the show.

I know! Romana was awesome! Maybe she hid out somewhere or got knocked through a timey wimey thing and survived the time war.

She will be in the Big Finish Audio Dramas and will be played by Juliet Landau.

The creator of the show intended for the Doctor to be played by a female in later bodies.

No. Verity Lambert didn't even create the idea of the Doctor regenerating at all at the start of the show.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-06 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
" Mr Newman urged the controller to temporarily reintroduce Patrick Troughton, a former Time Lord, to steady the TARDIS and pave the way for the most radical change in the show's 23-year history.

He wrote: "At a later stage Doctor Who should be metamorphosed into a woman.

"This requires some considerable thought – mainly because I want to avoid a flashy, Hollywood Wonder Women because this kind of heroine with no flaws is a bore.

"Given more time than I have now, I can create such a character."

He called for the female time traveller to be accompanied by a trumpet playing schoolgirl in "John Lennon-type spectacles" and her graffiti-spraying "yobbo" elder brother. "

Ah this was the anti-Colin Baker renewal document written when he'd gotten very senior in age and Grade was actively shoppping around for ways to hard crash the show. Newman had little to do with Doctor Who even during its formative stage of course. Lambert did pretty much all the heavy lifting. You might as well give the same weight to Tom Baker's cries that Romana ought to have been replaced with a talking animatronic cabbage.

Not Verity Lambert. Please get your facts straight.

Even Sid Newman didn't plan on it in the 60s. It was one of a number of ideas he came up with when the BBC asked him to come up with some headline attention grabbers at the end of the 80s. None of which were accepted by the BBC at the time, nor by any of the team since. So don't pretend it is some sort of SJ masterplan.

Isn't there already a female out there with the potential to become a full fledged time lord or has everyone forgotten about the Doctor's daughter??

The writers have. David Tennant apparently hasn't.
