I just really want to see this, okay?

I remember a scene where the Doctor said the Corsair (spelling?) was sometimes a he and sometimes a she and it was literally a throwaway line. It was never mentioned again in the show. And I think that an alien society (where children may or may not be formed by looms) would see sex and gender very differently than humans do.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember any of the Doctors ever identifying themselves as male in the traditional sense (like having outward genitalia). We don't know a whole lot about Gallifreyan biology except that they resemble humans and have two hearts and the ability to reform themselves (maybe they have a whole other organ for that which is kind of like our appendix, so the reason the appendix is useless is because we can't regenerate?) The thing is, most people think of gender in terms of males with testes and sperm and females with ovaries and eggs, and they make babies, but what if that wasn't the case? I just kind of really want to see that played out.

Eh, nothing's ever given any indication that time lord notions of sex and gender are vastly different than our own. The Corsair shows it's possible to regenerate as a different sex but that's still only one time lord out of several, it doesn't really say anything about their society as a whole.

I'm not really sure what you mean by your second point, I don't think they're ever going to go into detail about time lord genitals on something that is still a family show.

Have they indicated Time Lord notions of sex and gender aren't vastly different from our own?

Well, they all use male or female pronouns and present themselves as reasonably stereotypical men and women. The majority of time lord shown maintain the same gender through their regenerations. They don't comment on how different human gender norms are or seem surprised or confused by them. Given that all evidence shows them to be similar to us in this respect it seems a bit far fetched to say "Well they've never deliberately said that they have the same norms as us, therefore they don't!"

Sounds like a great fic premise but the most god awful boring thing to sit through on a family show that typically includes a lot of action. I'd be upset if my fee went towards that, not to mention bitter about my favourite show being ruined because a bunch of Americans wanted the show to be something other than what it is.

Oh, I dunno, I've seen several fics take this kind of premise and be incredibly boring with it too.

a - the Doctor being female would not ruin the show
b - it isn't just Americans who wouldn't mind a female Doctor and who gives a shit if that were the case? I'd be pretty damn happy if my licence fee funded a female Doctor. I'd be pretty damn happy anyway if that doesn't happen, but it's not a show-ruining concept.

But yeah - an episode dedicated to exploring Female! Doctor would be pretty boring. If it happens it should be a non-issue.

I always kind of thought that the Doctor's mention of the Corsair's gender-flipping was because it was something unusual. Maybe not unique to the Corsair, but perhaps a trait that was somewhat uncommon for Time Lords/Ladies.

So in this show it's okay for the female-doctor alien to turn into a man, but it's somehow horrible for any male-doctor aliens to turn into a woman?

Well, Donna saw his half clone naked and neither he nor Donna decided anything was unusual about him?
